Damp on External Walls

hi,
anyone could advice the solutions and reasons for the damp on external wall.

u can see the bottom of the external wall is wet and some white things come out (salt?). I have attached some photos. there are two walls getting damp one facing (photo 1 and 2) east and the other one facing south (photo 4 and 5)

behind the walls, it is basement with internal drainage and sump pit (sump pump), photo3.

any advice will be much appreciated.

  • Has it rained recently?

    • just couple weeks ago it was raining a lot.

recently weeks not rain but not sunny

  • It's normal, from the damp bricks. Looks like you've got the solution on the other side of the wall already?

    • yes on the other side of the wall, I patched the joint gap between the wall and concrete pathway, otherwise the rain will went through the gap to the basement.

  • This is called rising damp. My guess the culprit is that down pipe. Bricks are very porous. With time the mineral components will destroy the bricks.

    • Yep agree, rising damp. OP needs to sort out drainage on the OUTSIDE of the house as the inside sounds sorted.

      • yes Im guessing it is rising damp.

there is concrete pathway just connect to the external wall. so how the damp can go through the wall?

        • +1

The damp is under the wall and the concrete. The wall is sucking it up like a sponge.
