Recommendation for a New Laptop Please (Budget $800- $1200)

Hi.

I need a new “good looking” laptop for fast web browsing and office work - basic word / excel / PowerPoint apps.

Prefer long battery life though have it plugged in most of the time so good average battery life would do too.

Don’t need massive storage - basically just documents saved on laptop.
No gaming.
Webcam not needed.

Watching a movie rarely but usually connect laptop to TV with HDMI cable for this.

Want best value / deal available but budget is around $800-$1200 though can push more for a better deal.

Please help!

$771.03 + $30.67 (Free with Prime) ASUS VivoBook 15.6” from Amazon

Thinkpad X has better build quality, nicer keyboard to type on and a much faster 6-core CPU, in a much smaller package. Will be within your budget if you count cashback into the equation.

    • Asus vivobook looks good.
Does the price difference justify how much better the thinkpad x13 is?

After owning a bunch of consumer grade laptops nowadays only business grade laptops catch my eye, but that's my preferences.

if your computer is only used at home and you don't take it out of office the ASUS Vivobook at less than $800 makes for a fairly compelling purchase. If you do want to take your laptop out and about, the X13 is a no brainer with better CPU power efficiency.

      • I looooooooove my Thinkpads but if you don't really need an ultraportable you should be OK with the Asus. Thinkpads are usually regarded as having exceptional build quality and longevity, but if you're going to use it on a desk all the time probably better to go for the full size laptop over the 13"

    Any brand new thinkpad or.
Lenovo carbon x1 - refurbished off ebay. I have one and the build quality is amazing, you'll never go back to consumer grade laptops again.

    • I agree. I have owned a few second-hand X1's and all very good quality.

    • Inspiron 3000 series are the lowest end and lowest tier of Dell mainstream laptops. And if you're buying from a big box electronics store like HN / OW / Bing Lee you pay for the resellers margins and commissions etc and there's no cashback, something to bear in mind.

It Will be fine for what you do though. I don't see anything compelling about this device — it's a just Core i5, 8GB RAM and Intel HD graphics.

How does this compare to the Asus - just because of delivery times on the Asus thinking of this as alternative

    Thanks

    How about the Huawei matebook?

    Or

Slightly outside my price range but MSI modern?

Are these genuinely good value for money as JBhifi has marked them down?

Personally I think it's worthwhile going up from that price range, I have a 2019 Macbook Pro and it's served me well so far, runs everything smooth including all the biggest websites (youtube, facebook, wikipedia). The service and maintenance agreements are also very helpful, when I spilled some gravy on the keyboard they were very quick to be able to repair it and even swapped out the entire body, I forget how much it costs but it got fixed real nice. Anyway just remember that the poor man pays twice, goodluck buddy! =)
