How to Find Exact Specification for Sony TV's, and Choice

So, as I'm returning the TCL 55P8M that is faulty and has no replacement available, I'll have to up the budget significantly.

Still want Android so that's Sony at tier 1 level.

Anyone own a KD55X8000H or KD55X8000G and can comment on how good they are?

IS there ANY way to find out what CPU and RAM these TV's have? I.e do they have the 5891 or 5893 Mediatek Chip, and 2GB or 4GB? (Or different)

Is triluminous basically QLED, or inferior?

Also, anyone ever bought from the Sony seconds store, and are they bashed about or just box returns? (They say 12 months warranty for TV function?)

Thanks Brains trust.

rtings.com should answer some of your questions
    https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/sony-x800g-vs-sony-x…

Yes triluminos uses quantum dots, which is what Samsung calls QLED

I own the X8500F which is the 2018 model of the above models you mentioned but is also 120Hz

It uses an IPS panel so the contrast and blacks are awful, and I find the android interface to be pretty laggy

Colour space and viewing angles are great but I can't watch movies in the dark since you will notice the black appears to be more of a dark grey

    • My living room TV position is in direct sun and I sit off to one side (when I even get to chose the channel!) so I wondered if IPS might work out better for me.

Yes I saw IPS greys as an issue but the TCL didn't lag with (possibly) less grunt under the hood than a sony, hence why I wondered if anyone with one could load Aida64 from the play store and let me know the chip. Some sony's run quad core A53's and some quad core A73's, so I'd imagine a fairly big speed bump, just wondered if this happened in the low end between the G and H generation as well, as SONy calls them all X1 ultimate super dooper wonderchip and other things I'm sure designed to confuse average Joe (me!)

        Hello,

I can't tell you anything about the actual SOC in the TV's but the X1 chip they advertise is for picture processing (colours, upscaling) not the actual android tv system. So the picture chip should have no impact on the actual performance.

        Hope this helps

        • That does help! SO confusing. Found a whirlpool thread that indicates 2.5GB ram and a quad core a53/Mali G71 combo, but in other reddits that chip is supposed to be a quad A73/G71 chip, so still not sure! :)

@seraphim2017: Maybe go into JB and see if they'll let you try out the interface?

Seems like a long shot, but might just work.

            • @John976: They didn't have these models set up in either of my local JB's, but yes I'd definitely have done a side by side if I could have.

The rtings review of the X8000H lists the interface as "smooth".

    https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x800h

rtings also says that the interface is not as smooth on the x8000g, because of an older android tv version.

  • just noticed jb have the tcl c715 (and tgg the c815), wondering if either would be as good as a base level sony?

  • Choice of different sort have both models in current tests and rate picture quality SD, HD and sound of cheaper listed 8500G higher than 8000H, that may help you decide.
