New build - ducted heating/cooling unit servicing

Just wanted thought/opinions - recently built house (Nov 2018) has ducted heating/cooling.

Got a call from the installers saying the unit was up for a service, looking to schedule in a time. They were vague on the phone about what was involved and haven’t ascertained the cost yet. Is this actually required for such a new unit or just a bit of a gouge?

Do you service a car every year?

Required, but you can shop around.

  • Are you sure it's the installers and not some random company? In North America they have a big problem with cowboys knocking on doors telling people they need to "inspect their furnace", and then wouldn't you know it, something is broken..?

At the very least you should replace the filters

      need to "inspect their furnace"

Hey, that's one of my pick-up lines.

    • Yep definitely them - know the service manager by name (had some minor problems when we first moved in) and he contacted us by phone.

  • Good to do but anyone can do it. Get a price up front and be clear on what you need done. If nothing erong with heating or cooling maybe wait another year or two until you have problems.

  • We pay $99 for our 10 outlet ducted Daikin. Has never missed a beat in 14 years.

  • Thanks all - and agree with the general sentiment that if you look after something it will look after you! Will get a quote and list of proposed works and then shop around as suggested!
