  • Great price. $299 at JB

  • Good price , but not the best it’s ever been, before EOFY. Advantage is you can choose which switches you want .

  • +1

Anyone got one in Green switches? Are they a clone of Cherry Green?

    • +1

I just bought one in a recent deal, I think they're not cherry related. A lot louder than the cherry browns i came from. but nice keyboard. Not for Mac's though unfortunately. Added some orings on some of the keys and it noticeably dampens the noise. I'd buy it again for sure.

      • aha - that's good to know - so without software on Mac it's not worth it?

or doesn't work at all?? (but I guess it should at least work as a standard keyboard regardless)

        • +1

Can't use the software on Mac, so mine just has the default pulse. That's fine though thus far. Apparently you can plug it into a windows computer and set it how you want and save to internal storage, but I haven't tried it. Razer dropped Mac support for whatever reason.

      According to this video

      Green = Cherry Blue
      Orange = Cherry Brown
      Yellow = Cherry Speed

      • Hmm fairly sure cherry blues are meant to be bad for gaming.

        • Brown are too mushy for quick responses. Blue works fine just 2nd hardest to press and loud. Was most common back when they became popular. I prefer red, the fastest and only loud due to how hard you hit the keys really.

    • +2

I have 2 Razer Blackwidows both in Green - one is BW Chroma Tournament Ed (TKL) and the other is BW Ultimate (with the water resistant switches).

I also have a Cherry G80 with Cherry Blues, and the Razer are definitely a lot more tactile and clicky. Not sure how they'd compare with Cherry Greens?

Interestingly, the two Razer Greens feel different. I'm not sure if its due to the water resistant green being a different switch, or due to the keycaps.

      • …I just picture a closet full of premium keyboards sitting about in a house somewhere :p

        • +1

I picture them all on his desk and he plays them all at once like some nerd phantom of the opera.

    • I have the Razer Green at home;
and a Cherry Blue at work. (which is also now at home, thanks COVID-19)

      Razer Green is comparatively "lighter" and doesn't requires as much force to bottom out;
whereas the Cherry Blue requires you to commit the key travel all the way to bottom out

You get the feeling that the Razer Green is faster

Using a 9am-5pm as a usage reference, I started on the Razer Green and have gotten used to it, I find the Cherry Blue switch pretty heavy towards the end of my day.

Many reviews and impressions say with high-level impression that the Razer Green is a Cherry Blue clone, but the more you type on these switches the more you realise they aren't.

  • This or a Ducky One 2 Skyline?

    • whereabouts do you even buy a ducky one keyboard from? amazon?

      • +1

PCCaseGear has them for RRP, rarely if ever go on sale though.

  • Picked this up for $144 from Amazon local a few weeks back. Camels and some patience:) Great Keyboard!

  • I bought this last time it was on sales on Amazon (price-matched with OW).

Excellent keyboard, the tactile feel is great.

Note that Green switch (equivalent of Cherry Blue) is very loud.

    • can you price match if its on sale in the US?

      • Last time it was sold by Amazon AU, but generally OW will accept price match with international stores as long as the model number is exactly the same.

        • OW as in Office Works?

          • @Tames71: if its office works, that would be absolutely great. always thought to price match, they need to have a physical store

          • @Tames71: OW = Officeworks

  • is it also going to be good for general use? I am typing quite a bit at home for work, looking at these things, and classification as Gaming keyboard confuses me

    • +2

Absolutely. Blues/greens are awesome if the noise does not bother others.

      • are yellows still good?

      • thanks!

    • I have the Green Switch version and while I do love it, I had to switch over to a standard membrane Microsoft keyboard because it started to get quite tiring typing 9-5PM everyday with the mechanical. I also feel that I type a lot quicker with the membrane for work. If you don't type an awful lot for work, these should be fine (that's my 2 cents anyway).

      • Lighter switches would probably help you.

        • Yep, most likely. I'll have to wait for my next splurge :)

  • +2

I picked this up on a whim with the green switches in the past $144 sale, but after some more research ending up returning and getting the HyperX Alloy Origins Core TKL instead, which is currently on sale at $129 from Amazon US. If you are happy to sacrifice the numpad and dedicated media keys; you get the benefits of detachable USB C, standard keyboard layout (easier to replace keycaps), a full aluminium body, a much smaller footprint, and not having to install Razer Synapse. Also comes with red (linear) or aqua (tactile) switches.

    • +1

I recently switched from Razer BlackWidow Orange (super old) to hyperX Alloy Origins Core (Red) Full size for about $160 and I am having a grand time with it. Highly Recommend it.

      • +1

Yeh that's the red switch version, the aqua switch version has just come down further to $117 on Amazon. Here

        • wow thanks!! now just need to find out about Mac OS support.. I am guessing this will limit my choice considerably

  • +1

I love their hardware but hated and refused to install their bloated supporting software. These hardware will ran like a handicap without the bloated software. I would have bought this if the software was better.

    • Synapse sucks. I'm using a modern Deathadder mouse but an older Anansi keyboard and the new software doesn't support the old keyboard! It wants me to install 2 versions of Synapse! No thanks.

  • Oh and just as I purchased a Razer Ornata Mecha-Membrane..

Anyone who has used both have any view? Is it worth me returning the Ornata and getting this?

    • yes

      • +2

And you've convinced me. Well played.

        • Lol. Give me all your money?

  • +1

Thanks OP got one, yellow switches.

  • +2

I have a Cherry blue, Cherry brown and Razer green.

Cherry blue is definitely the loudest of all 3. Razer green is a bit noisier than cherry brown, but with nice tactile feeling.

My vote is for Razer green.

    • Thanks for this, I was torn up between green and orange but this explains it perfectly for me!

  • Does this get cashback? It's "PC gaming " is that a cashback category?

  • Thanks OP got 1 :) with yellow switches.

  • +1

Cheers OP! Was deciding between orange and yellow and have decided to give orange a try.

    • That's where I'm leaning too. I don't game anymore just type. The yellow seems like it will introduce to many errors for typing alone. And green is too loud despite probably feeling the best to use.

      • what about the yellow makes you think it will introduce errors for typing?

        • 2 reviews I saw suggest because of the small travel typers can repeat keys and introduce errors. I don't know how true or accurate that is. To be safe I figured Orange may be the compromise. I've also seen reviewers say Orange doesn't belong in the range so it's pretty confusing.

  • When did they scrap the macro keys?

    • A good few years back… the only one left that you can get from Razer's store is the Blackwidow Ultimate Classic.

    • Because a lot of people find the macro keys annoying and they create lots of mis-typed keys, until you are used to the locations of these keys.

  • I like the LED banding of the Huntsman Elite, but then the Blackwidow Elite has the audio/USB ports on the left side. My old Blackwidow Chroma had the audio/USB ports on the right hand side… just never use them as right next to mouse…

  • Probably a dumb question but there's no cheeky way to get OW to match this?

    • I don't see why they shouldn't, it's the same model after all (isn't it?) and people have internationally price beat with OW before… So not a dumb question at all.

I'm over here enjoying my Romer-Gs while everyone else is burning me alive for not hating them. Why the hate?

  • Was looking to get the orange one but the price has gone back for this colour. Now to decide to go for green or yellow.

    • ouch and then some, back to over $300. Guess we know which one was the most popular

      • +1

        Orange is back to $165

        • +1

Thanks, just ordered the orange one :)

          • +1

@Mattylicious: After umming and ahhing, I just pulled the trigger too. Orange also.

Should be a nice upgrade from my ancient Logitech G15 from 2009

            • @Click_It: Impressive. My g15 failed a long time ago. I'm on my 2nd keyboard since the g15.

              G15, Black widow, Anansi.

              • @The Value: I am a little surprised it's still going, at times I wanted it to die so I had a valid reason to upgrade but that never happened so here I am upgrading finally anyway :)

            • @Click_It: A friend of mine missed his G15, if your interested in getting rid of it let me know.

              • @yacman: Yeah I most likely will no longer have a need for it. I'll send you a PM and one of us can give it a bump in about 2 weeks time once my new KB arrives

  • Has anyone's keyboard shipped?

    • Received mine today, very happy with that time frame!

      • Wow! I'm going to have to have a chat with Amazon…

        What switch btw?

        • I went with the orange switch

          • @Arkanite: Thanks for letting me know. I bought the green switch, so that might be the reason for the delay. Hopefully it ships soon.

            • @Bobby Hill: got mine also today yellow switch FYI came 1 week earlier than stated.

              • @ridical: Nice! Mine has finally shipped - can't wait!

                • @Bobby Hill: I bought the green switch and it arrived on the twenty-fourth.
