JB Hi-Fi Has Increased The Monthly Fee for Telstra Plans

Just noticed that there are new monthly fees for Telstra plans via JB. Increase of $4 per month for all plans.

Also, the $69 (previously $65) plan used to come with a $400 gift card but is now instead comes with $300. The $500 gift card over for this deal may never be seen again.

Gotta make back all that gift card money some how

  • JB Hifi stores look cheap don't they? Plyboard floors, scruffy staff, random-ish stock placement, loud music, and the ol' standby, yellow colour everywhere. Psych types love to tell you that yellow=cheap

All BS of course, we will all regret the day that JB were allowed to buy the Good Guys who offered a competitive element to the marketplace.

But JB isn't cheap; and their luxe offices in the Chadstone mall need to be paid for.

Kudos to the OP for updating us on the JB trickery.

      Offices at Chadstone gone.
They in Southbank now as they have combined all their operations into one location (TGG,JB etc)

  • It's $1 a month less than what Telstra increased their prices by.

  • The plans now include 5G access, not just 4G

    • Telstra indicated they weren't going to charge extra for 5G, unless you were on their lowest tier plan.

      • Fair enough. Their prices have gone up too, though. Not sure about other providers. To be honest I don't keep a close eye on the plans these days, my phone is supplied by work and my wife is on the $45 JB plan. No need for us to change.

I just figured the 5G part was worth mentioning, I wasn't aware of Telstra's change

Yeah i'd assume this is Telstra's way of not directly charging for 5G but packaging it in with an increase in plan costs in line with price rises across the board.

      • Telstra didn't increase their plan price for 5g, but if you compare Telstra plan back then it's way cheaper.

It’s worth clarifying that these are for new customers, they also now include peace of mind (no $10 1GB charges over your allowance).

Existing customers will remain on the old price and inclusions until at least your contract is up, possibly longer.

    • My plan ends in October… Still not sure whether to keep on the current plan (I bought the $65 pr. month plan and managed to reduce it to $45 pr. month with 60GB allowance) or to switch to low cost e.g. Kogan/Catch and get proper NBN… The Telstra 500GB for $40 pr. month would have been perfect but I don't qualify. :(

      Any good suggestions?

      • when did you join and how did you get to $45

        • I joined on the Samsung S10e offer. Negotiated New Customer & then COVID discount stack.

          • @OzCheapo: Isn;t the covid discount $10, how did you get it down by $20 per month

            • @[Deactivated]: I got the discounts stacked. First to $55 for a couple of months then $10 off via the COVID discount
