Kia Cerato Hatch S with Safety Pack AUTO | PETROL

I was planning to buy a Kia Cerato hatch or Hyundai i30.

Was doing my research and found a mistake on Kia's website. They listed an auto at the price of manual (with safety pack). Now the dealer is ready to offer me that price however I have 24 hours to make that purchase and the price will be removed asap. He sent and email in front of me to fix the pricing. Moreover he won't give me mats with the car.

I am getting Cerato Hatch S with Safety Pack AUTO | PETROL for $23490 (Platinum grey) Feb 2020 build plus $174 for mats plus $110 for black & white plate if i want.(which is usually included in their new car offer.

Is this a good price?
How much can you negotiate on a new car?
Actual price of the car after discount is also listed $25490 on the same page, so its a $1716 cheaper if I buy within 24 hours.
Can't you actually negotiate a new car by $1716, I mean if I buy a new i30 will I be able to reach that price after negotiation any way ?

Why buy his mats get them for elsewhere and save around $100

    https://www.fitmycar.com/au/kia-cerato-hatch-2019-current-ca…

As for best price, I doubt anyone will ever get that. After you buy, another dealer will always say they can do better. But then by how much?

Call around a few dealers and see if they will match or better the price if not go ahead if its the car you want.

    • Thanks, will definitely buy the mats from elsewhere. Didn't know they were that cheap.

Also remember the black and white plates are those that have the dealers name on it. Generally they start with a Y

Just check with them before your order these if you dont want dealers name on it.

        eg see this

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_New_South_Wales#/media/File:NSW_Dealerplate_YDO70Z((cropped).jpg

        • I have bought another car with them previously with no dealer name but will double check for sure.

picked up a cerato sport plus hatch 18 months ago for $22k (was supposedly the last one they had)… they must have put the prices up a bit since then

    • The prices were cheaper before I believe, I picked a Sorrento myself (demo) for 36K

    Why mention petrol?

      copy pasted from the website

  • Sounds like he is just chasing the sale and you probably gave away that you are keen on the car.

With new cars sales in the current economic conditions, the price offered now is also going to be the price you can get in a weeks time, negotiate the Mats and Plates included and don't budge.

In June last year even with the Cerato GT being in "Hot Demand" I got it for 30.5k drive away with Mats and White Plates included (brand new) which was like a 3k discount (had to wait 6 weeks for delivery but saved a fair bit of dough).

  • $170 for mats will stop you saving $1700 due to pricing error? Or negotiate 7% off. Ring around and just give dealers the price. There is nothing to lose, they can just say no on the phone.

Mats are a consumable and they are cheap to get from third party seller. If you drive a lot you might actually not want carpet but the plastic mats then put carpet third party ones in for presentation when you sell it.

  • Another dealer ready to beat the price by $200 and throwing in mats and the number plate too (also have multiple color options).
I think I should talk to another dealer.

Just be sure they arent just bringing you in and wasting time.

If you have to travel far to get this consider its worth.

But that said its worth following up - good luck😀

      • yes double checked but they also want to do a a deal today itself.
Calling back the original dealer now, lets see if he can match as i prefer the dealer closer to my place.

      • Good advise! after having multiple phone conversation now when I was about to make a deal and go the lady said its the price without safety pack. lol what a waste of time.

Donno of this will help you, but at end of June I needed a new car. I liked the Ranger. List price was like $65k, but on EOFY sale for $56.5k for 2020 model. Called around heaps of dealers and said give it to me for $50k and I’ll pay the deposit now on the phone. I tried for both 2020 models and some dealers had low Km demo 2019 models. None of them could do it. Went into my local ford dealer (also a Kia dealer) they had a brand new 2019 one listed for $55k. I said I have cash deposit in my pocket that I’ll pay right now, can you do it for $50k. He Went upstairs And spoke to the manager who said we can get close can you budge and I said no, $50k. He went back upstairs and then came down and started writing up the contract.

I think if you just have a price in mind and be firm about it, but also be ready to 100% pull the trigger in person and on the spot you can get a deal. If they come down to the price you are asking then you’ll be happy with what you get!

  • The 1st dealer i went to wont beat or match the offer given by the 2nd dealer. Seems like i am going with the 2nd dealer for $23300. Will go and try to negotiate further but doubt it will do any further discount.

  • Also i do have cash which I have kept in my home loan offset account saving around 2.84% interest.

I am getting a car finance at 4.85% plus $900 fee.

Should I take a car loan or buy car with the cash ?

    • If you can afford to use the cash( ie will you need it elsewhere) - go with cash unless you can get 5% on your money net AFTER tax (remember when you invest the $20K you will need to pay tax on the income from that - although being an offset account probably negates the tax impact ) and the $900 fee adds to the interest rate hence the 5% rough guide.

Can also help with insurance premiums being lower with some companies)

      • I can afford to pay in cash.
Thinking, is it worth breaking the saving ?
By keeping in offset i am saving approx $1500.
Loan interest including fee will be around lets say $3800 approx.
So technically its $2300 i pay if i take loan.

So should i pay that amount and not break into my savings or is it wise to save and purchase on cash.

I think i already know ozbraginers answer however will appreciate a reply

  • I just jumped onto Carsales, selected Kia Cerato S, keyword "safety," auto, ad type Brand New or Demo and there is one in QLD (googling the dealer number at the bottom of the ad tells me it's Zupps) for $22.4k

    • 3 in nsw, lowest is $23990 white, from Parramatta kia, same guys offered me $200 less on my offer with metallic color.

      • +1

I'm sure you can negotiate it to at least the 22.4k (on road costs don't vary THAT much between states excluding WA) its just an indicator of what you should be paying.

But also feel free to pay the $23.8k :)

Just go buy the car and leave us alone
Nobody else cares or knows if its a good deal or not because we are not in the market.
What matters is what YOU think OP.
If the dealer is hard and fast on the price then its pretty well rock bottom.
You can buy good floor matts and any auto store for $20 so its not a deal breaker.

    • Just wanted to check if someone else have bought it or in market to buy.
Already got the answers i was looking for negotiating on the basis of the quote provided by Hurray.

      Will leave you alone!
I thought it was ok to discuss these sort of things in this forum.

      • Just do your research and make your decision.
        Its pretty simple.
And of course it never hurts to try and negotiate.

I bought a 2019 Cerato in October. It is a great car.

Concerning mats, I bought these: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/224010101058?ViewItem=&item=2240… in 'Executive - Charcoal' for $99.95. They're still like new.

If you have the mat hooks on the driver's seat floor, ensure you get mats with holes for them.

    • Thanks Colossus, mats no longer an issue got a better deal :)

      • That's great. :-)

I'm not sure what has happened this year, given COVID-19, with prices generally so I won't comment on that.

From when I was looking, the i30 was more expensive. I thought the Cerato much better value.

Either way, enjoy your car. A new car is a lot of fun.
