If only Google Wear wasn't awful. I've had 4 Google Wear watches and they have all performed absymally. The terrible SoC + bad software really ruin it.

I want to love them, but I just can't!
I'm not sure it's the SoC, but Google/Alphabet is thing to squeeze WAY too much software in by running an Android operating system.
Good idea, but a massive software and hardware mismatch.

If it wasn't for the constant lag, it would definitely be a better OS than Tizen on my Galaxy Active 2.

Not a dupe? I feel I saw similar deal recently

  • Can you receive SMS/reply to them?

    • With an Android phone, yes. Not sure regarding iOS, but the specifics of iOS interface options should be well documented for Wear OS.

I will buy it if battery last at least one week for nfc payment….but..it isn't

I got apple watch and mi band..

I choose mi band, it last at least two weeks

    Apple watch need charger everyday!.

    • No chance re nfc, because nfc requires a lot of chitchat back and forth.
Your looking at a day typical, maybe 1.5days with lots of stuff switched off.

    • With the same old lithium battery technology since dinosaur age, the more feature a gadget has, the less life time you get.

I'd like to point out that the chipset used on these is the Qualcomm 2100. A chipset released in 2016 that even then was a poor design for a watch for its power hungry stats. The Qualcomm 3100 conversely was an update a few years later that was anything but, using the same cpu, and adding a crappy low power cpu that can let your watch be a timepiece with nothing else (low colour, no widgets, no phone sync). It was a big crock.

The 4100 chipset may be a bit better as it has more efficiently sized cpus, and a low power mode thats practical… but development pieces are out in six months with production stuff not likely to be part way through next year.

After having a Moto watch then a Ticwatch die from the battery being exhausted from daily recharges, it's a hard sell to buy anymore wear os based chipsets anymore. If you spend a lot, you are sinking money to something that will age rapidly.

Wear itself has potential… years ago. The hardware has not changed though, and the prices have risen for no real upgrade. It's nice having NFC on gpay on a watch under $100, but is that a killer enough feature for you to forgive the other failings?

I have a 4.5 year old original Huawei watch and I feel a lot of what you just said. I have to give it credit it's still working though. on the software side I think what Google is doing with wear OS is the best ad for switching to Apple: sketchy software, hit and miss features, Google assistant works in 10% of the time that I actually need it so I don't bother anymore.

    • I also have the Huawei W1 as well for over 4 years now wearing daily. It's still working to this day and hasn't skipped a beat. I can still get 1-1.5 day on a single charge and smooth UI even though recently I had to use super glue to reattach the strap. It's a really nice watch which got compliments from time to time.

      • Yeah I'm still loving mine. 2days battery life but I have the wifi feature turned off.
Screen burn-in is my only criticism.

        • Agree with all of the above! My Huawei Watch is still going too.

Battery is still pretty good. 1.5 to 2 days on minimal use.

A slight case of screen burn, due to the watch occasionally deciding it wouldn't turn the screen off automatically. Seemed to happen when playing podcasts, and the remote functionality would become available on the wearable. It didn't seem to recognise when the audio was stopped.

Google Assistant has become virtually useless, and if I'm honest, was never that great to begin with.

The band has only just started to come apart slightly, but that's hardly a big deal since it's easily replaced.

My biggest gripe is Google Authenticator. So far as I can tell, it's been deprecated for WearOS. I used it multiple times a day. It was incredibly convenient. I've joked with workmates that my device was essentially an overpriced RSA token.

I'd have a hard time paying that much again for a wearable though, which is why I was looking at the Misfit Vapor 2. Seems any of its shortcomings could be overlooked for $99. Surely, in terms of hardware, it's a superior device to the Huawei?

  • Anyone knows how long actually battery last? I like the standalone music player option actually…any chance I can find it in a better battery one?

    Cheers

    • Perhaps Amazfit - Pace/Stratos/Verge/GTS? It is just mp3s loaded onto the watch though.

Thanks OP - might take a punt. I'll try the optimisations listed here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/8982893/redir

  • I'm rolling this dice too.

I'm thinking "How bad can it be?", but I'm also quite afraid of the answer… I guess I'll find out soon enough.

I got the 46mm yesterday it's pretty big if you got smaller wrist, but as far the watch goes it is very nice watch the band is a sort of leather and its very comfortable on your wrist it's worth every bit of $99 yes it's a bit laggy but nothing to worry about
after you charged up go to about in system setting and up date as there is a few and you will have to charge it a couple of times as it does drain the battery
once that is done its fine,I fully charged my last night at 10pm and left in the drawer in the morning it was 80%, fully charged it at 11am and been wearing it now 73% also played music with it.

I haven't done any fitness with it but for me battery life seems the same as my Galaxy watch active.
I still can't believe how cheap it is good quality watch.

    Hope this helps

    • I think I ended up downloading about 6 system updates! Finally, I'm on Security Patch February 2020, which apparently is the latest one.

It's a little laggy sometimes, especially if you're trying to use apps.

      Notifications are nice.

Find the watchface you like most is going to be difficult - there are billions on the app store, and they're all just not quite right. I guess I'll find out more as I go along.

I wish there was a good sleep tracker, but Sleep for Android doesn't seem to want to use the Misfit Vapor 2.

The Vapor X was being sold on the Misfit site for the same price as the Vapor 2, but I don't think the X ever got a release here.

If anyone knows how I can get the Fossil watch faces on the Vapor 2, that'd be great - the Misfit watches and the Fossil watches are basically the same.

    • I just bought one the other day, but I couldn't figure out how to change the temperature to celsius in the weather. Do you know how?
Also, do you know how to connect it to MisFit app?

How long your battery last? I noticed it barely make it for the whole day.
