Monitor Needed for Student Budget to $250

We are a family with little knowledge on computer peripherals but need a monitor to go with a laptop, dock etc we have ordered for a home set up for a student.
Looking for something at minimum 24 inch. Monitor will be used for educational purposes, streaming, reading, minor online gaming. Budget to $250.
If you can provide links for any online items that would be great. Many thanks

There are many styles to choose from within your budget.

Product Size Inputs Panel Hz Store Price Link
    LG 25UM58 25" HDMI IPS 75Hz Centrecom $249 https://www.centrecom.com.au/lg-25um58-p-25-ultrawide-ips-led-monitor
    AOC 27B1H/75 27" VGA / DSUB / HDMI IPS 60Hz Centrecom $229 https://www.centrecom.com.au/aoc-27b1h75-27-ips-full-hd-3-way-frameless-slim-monitor
    Samsung LS24R350FHEXXY R350 23.8" HDMI / DSUB IPS 75Hz CPL $189 https://cplonline.com.au/monitors/samsung-monitor/samsung-ls24r350fhexxy-r350-23-8-flat-fhd-16-09-ips-1920x1080-5ms-75hz-1x-hdmi-1x-vga-vesa-3y.html

Pricing will be different depending on your inputs, panel type and hz. 75hz should be good enough. Would not recommend a TN panel.

What's convenient for you? Online? Physical store?

    Dell

    Philips

Make sure the panel type is IPS.
Resolution is atleast Full HD (1920 x 1080)
    and HDMI input.

  • Don’t be afraid of a 1440 or 4K monitor either. If your laptop does 4K@60hz over hdmi dock or whatever. Once you get used to a 4K monitor using a 1080p monitor feels like looking through a screen door. And most games these days let you have 4K game overlays but sub 1080p game rendering for 60 frames per second, the effect is totally worth it imo. A really big Cheap 4K monitor is Better than two smaller good 1080p monitors.

    • 4K for $250?! Sign me up!

      • I’m still rocking an Acer 4K I bought from Officeworks what felt like years ago, was the cheapest 4K monitor they had at the time. Other than little spiders crawling inside the screen itself somehow I’m very happy with it. I see a different Acer one for $359. Kogan have one for 349, and I see 1440p monitors for around 250. My Acer is 27 or 28 inches and it seems the perfect size for multi monitor, I’d go a bit bigger if it was the only extra monitor.

  • Interesting post. I’m considering getting a Mac Mini soon so I’m currently looking up monitors to suit. Thanks.

We bought this one because it’s handy split screen for papers n research and gaming and chats. It was also the only one under $300 to claim back tax
