What Is The Green Coloured Metal Box on The Road Side?

Hi All,

I am wondering what is this dark green coloured metal box for and what is inside.

It has no openings, just a key hole.

It sometimes located next to a red post box, and sometimes just sitting on the kerb, no where close to anything.

Cheers

    Traffic Control Box?

Relay boxes for when Posties can’t fit all the mail on their bikes

It’s for the mail that gets delivered in the area. After the postie does one batch they will go back to this box and get another batch to deliver rather than going back to the depot.

  • Commonly called a drop box. Not always red as well, also come in green

Need picture. I know of 3 types of “green boxes” that are for mail, traffic and also comms. But the ones near regular mail boxes are likely the mail ones mentioned above.

Resupply box placed ahead of time for when people need to flee the city in an apocalyptic scenario.

Typically filled with toilet paper and pasta.

  • Now I'm curious what they look like because all I am thinking of are the electrical ones.

  • NBN FTTN ?

Postal collection box. They are used as a drop off/pick up for post in the area. They are often used by the delivery riders on bikes when they cant hold everything for their area.

Source; I have one about 50m from my house and asked my local postie when I saw him using it.

In addition to the postie drop boxes and NBN cabinets already mentioned, there are dark green DISPLAN lockers on various roads in Melbourne. Generally near freeways or bridges, they contain emergency gear and traffic equipment.
