Web Catchers - Free Student Web Hosting

160

Good Afternoon OzBargainers,

At Web Catchers we want to give students a fair go. Host your personal blog, website or photo gallery with us and you won't pay a cent on our student plan

These plans are hosted from our servers and network in Melbourne, Australia, and provide the following allowances:

  • 200MB of RAID 10 protected disk space
  • 2GB of bandwidth per month
  • 10 email accounts
  • 5 MySQL databases
  • cPanel, Softaculous and RVSiteBuilder

No ads, no banners, no fuss!

For more information on the plan, head to http://webcatchers.net.au/hosting/student/ and hit the Sign Up Now link.

Things you should know:

These plans are for personal, not business use. Student plans are only available to Australian High School, Tafe and University students. You must sign up using a valid .edu.au email address to be eligible.

We hope you enjoy the service. :-)

Cheers,

Web Catchers Team

  • does it include the domain registration, which is $25 for 2 years under the website?

      Hi cruise control,

The deal is just for web hosting. You will need to have your own domain name either through us or any other provider

      • Do you offer free sub-level domain names like those old Geocities ones?
Also, what is the duration of hosting? Do i have to declare every year that I'm still studying?

          Hi Wolfenator,

You can keep the hosting plan for life but remember its for personal use only.
If you need a subdomain check out DynDNS or FreeDNS they should be able to set you up with a free subdomain from memory :)

        • I had to use a random domain to pass the first part of the registration form… seeing as sub-domains don't work.

        • Hi typ3z3r0,

I just noticed that, you're right.

If you sign up with just the domain and put the sub domain in the order comments I will fix that up for you. I'll be on the sales chat for the next hour or so if you have any dramas just let me know

        • Thanks for the quick reply and good customer service.
I mainly want to create a quick personal site for testing purposes but later on if I intend to get a full-scale e-business website setup I'll definitely consider migrating over to one of your corporate packages that would include a primary level domain. Cheers.

  • What about education.nsw.gov.au email addresses that the NSW DET system uses? Are these eligible?

    • Yep no problem :)

  • just curious: what are the differences between hosting here or on google/other free hosting sites? :P

    • Hi David,

My experiences with free hosting sites have either involved banner ads or overloaded servers.
You're not going to get an uptime guarantee like our premium plans but you get to use Australian based servers and deal with a local provider.

Did you know that QUT (Qld) students can keep their student address for life now? Once a student, always a student!

Many uni's allow their alumni to keep their email addresses, often with a .alumni subdomain attached to the address. Did you know the idea is not to broadcast this in public forums so that people fresh out of uni, aka still poor, can avail themselves of offers like these :P

      Shhh :p

  • nice, but why?

  • Mhh..I'm with awardspace's free plan, they are reliable in the sense that they have been around for years and my website wont disappear because the company is MIA, looks to me like this is a start up that could be gone tomorrow, might not be worth peoples efforts?

  • Just a quick note that your signup TOS link is broken (404 error)!
So I've signed up but I haven't agreed to what I cannot read lol.

I'm sorry, but 200Mbs is just to small for my porn collection…
