Woolies E-Gift Cards coming with barcode?

Is anyone aware of Woolies releasing e-gift cards with barcodes, or updating the Money app to include barcodes?

Today went to pay with e-gift card and instead of directly going to punch in the number on the keypad, I got a screen with 2 options :-

  1. Scan Gift Card Barcode (along with an icon showing a phone with a barcode on the screen)
  2. Swipe Gift Card or enter e-gift card details on the pinpad

I like the Coles cards because they give you barcodes instead of keying the details, but the Woolies ones are easier to get, and suit me because I can also use them for petrol.

Noticed the same. Hopefully they do, but need to be more reliable than the Coles eGiftCard barcodes as they're hit and miss.

    • I scanned Coles eGC hundreds of times at least 10 stores and never failed once on my phone or required staff assistance. Do not print them.

To make the Coles code scan easier at checkouts, you can transfer the code (last 17 digits) into stocard / loyalty card app.

    • Staff told me to increase screen brightness - then scanned correct every time.

  • yea I believe its in the making, I cant remember where I heard it from.

Good to see improvements been made unlike Coles. Honestly I have WW and Coles in the same mall, but visit WW 80% of the time, because the Egift card is easy to use. I've been to Coles countless times, standing at the self checkout moving my phone to different angles, zooming in and out on the barcode for 30 seconds, then giving up and paying with card.

    • Try printing the barcode to paper. It might scan better.

    • On the latest Coles self-checkouts, there is a dedicated scanner (like what they have at the manned checkouts) which will work with the phone. The scanner is above the top corner of the screen. I felt like a fool when the assistant pointed it out to me.

        You are not a fool.

        You are skid.

        Never change.

      • AFAIK, it has been years since Coles eGC appeared, not the lastest. Only through this scanner can you have 100% success rate.

    • You can scan the gift card at the normal scanner(where you scan your item) instead of the Flybuys card scanner

    • transfer the code (last 17 digits) into a loyalty card app like stocard or pass2u etc.

Guessing it's a move towards non-contact gift card payments in response to Covid…

It's a code 128 bar code. You can type in the number and make one online or maybe a barcode app.

  • Anyone made one to be working? I guess barcode needs to include full card numbers, not the instore 10 numbers. PIN required or not, or should be included in the barcode.

  • Do the new cards we order today have the new barcode?

I have not touched an egift card for a long time. I still have a $87 one in my phone. I don't want to be a guinea pig and buy another one.

    Cheers.

My Money doesn’t show any barcode , even with new e-gift card.

Successfully scanned the giftcard barcode today. I made a full card numbers one(starting with 628) in the Stocard in other(store) option. You still need to type 4 digit PIN on the keypad.

It is more convenient than the old way.

    • Nice work. After reading your post, I tried the same using Google Pay and it worked a treat.

Just to note that for some reason, selecting Woolworths Supermarkets as the gift card provider in Google Pay didn't render the barcode numbers into a barcode.

Not sure if it's just my phone or a glitch with the app, but I found that choosing Wish or Big W worked to render the barcode.

    • Where is the barcode? I just got a egift right now and there’s no barcode. Did I need to put in my wololies reward card number?

      • You need to make one by yourself. BTW, it is also working in the BIG W.

how do u make a barcode?

          • @cloudy: Stocard app. Manually input the card number and the app generates the barcode for you.

  • Still waiting to see what happens. I want something that allows me to scan it near the manned front checkout without pressing any buttons.

Win win for both the worker and me. I wish we could have it. I'm sure the coders can put something together.

    • Even with bar code you still need to key in the PIN

  • I’ve tried the barcode - used it on my Apple Watch and it detected well - as mentioned above, pin code still needs to be keyed into the terminal manually.
