Xbox One Wireless Controller out of Stock at Many Retailers

I need to get a new Xbox One wireless controller as mine is faulty. If left in a neutral position the cursor/character still moves forward. Something is being sticky.

Many retailers seem to be currently out of stock of the Xbox One wireless controller. Is it due to COVID postal delays worldwide or is there a new model coming out?

Ebay. Microsoft store. And all my usual stores around me that would stock these are showing up as in stock. Either you can’t be looking real hard or you don’t want to pay retail or they don’t have the colour you want.

I needed one a couple of weeks ago and JB/EB did not have any in store, so I bought it from Microsoft. JB seem to have them back in stock now though.

    • JB, EB, Amazon AU, Target, BigW, Kogan are all out of the standard black controller. Microsoft has it, which made me wonder whether it’s a newish update just being released.

With all the Special Edition ones they have these days perhaps they don't really make too many of the black ones anymore, apart from the ones that come with new consoles. Especially since the new console is coming out soon.

look up the repair on youtube. buy the screwdriver.

Did this with my PS4 controller, and fixing them up has become an addiction for me in lockdown - replacing buttons, cleaning the motherboards, fixing drift - with the right screwdriver, it's not too imposing once you get your feet wet. This guy and his videos are a pretty good starting point.

      Good luck!

Contact Microsoft directly and send it to them (free of charge) for a free replacement. Mine has same issue and I'm sending it to them later today. Warranty shouldn't make a difference.

    • Thanks for the tip! I'll contact Microsoft and give it a go!

      • Unfortunately mine is out of warranty, so I can't return it for replacement. But thanks for the tip anyway, useful to know!

Would recommend fixing. Taken apart PS4 controllers AND Xbox controllers and they're both pretty easy actually. Why spend $75+ when you can just spend a few minutes and dollars in replacement parts?

Just my opinion, you do you

I purchased an Xbox one controller on the website named CPL. I chose to pick up in-store.CPL It was a 'wired' version, which included a wireless controller and 3 meters USB cable. Some other websites/stores sold this version at that time, you could have a look.
It cost me 65$ and works fine.

    • Thanks for the link!
This particular package that you bought, is the USB cable for connecting to the PC?
Can the controller still connect wirelessly to the Xbox?

The cable was for PC. But the controller could work on both PC and Xbox (I remember that I checked this on the Microsoft website and the same model's description of other retailer's webpage. And you could have a double check on your own).

By the way, I think the delay was caused by the COVID-19. And some kids and students have to stay at home, so some consoles or accessories or even games will still be out of stock in the upcoming days/weeks.

  • There are no console deals going at the moment, nothing like there was back in March anyway….
