That's so dodgy! Old photo was a good find.
It'll get to a stage where we'll struggle to name a company which hasn't done this…
They should at least put something on the packaging to make it clear…
"New Smaller Size"
It'd be good if we had a site like pricehipster, geared to track this shrinkage…Name and shame the manufacturers.
It wouldn't change their behaviour overnight but it might result in decreased sales, providing them with food for thought.
@Last Seen: how do you really justify it to consumers? it's now a smaller package therefore easier to carry? :)
always struggled with those 2kg boxes - now with 1.8kg my back pain is gone
@slick7: lol I like that
you could easily apply a similar approach to reduced block/packet size and tackling obesity.
they have been 1.8kg for a while now. at least two months when i started thinking buying the ultimate. ultimate liquid rarely goes on special. i upvoted the op.
they switched the ultimate liquid back to 1.8L i think about 2 years ago
so it was a good deal before at half-price, 40 washes, before it shrunk and the same price
Maybe something to do with the fact that 1.8kg is almost exactly 4 pounds, and Omo is sold (and made) all over the world.
Coincidentally, 1.8 litres is half a gallon.
I have a 5kg box of Omo, which is extremely close to 11 pounds. It can't be a coincidence.
Also, I noticed on the bottom of the box the words "Made in" are printed and the word "Australia" is stamped next to it.
(Which seems a little odd considering that it is clearly printed for the Australian market, but maybe they shift manufacturing around THAT MUCH.)It actually doesn't bother me, because I compare prices per kilogram. But there's probably some variation in product quality based on where it is made.

Most countries around the world use kg

Why would they sell 11 pounds to countries that use imperial units. Surely it would be 10 lbs.

That's my point. They dropped the size but kept the same price without any clear indication that the sizes have been reduced.
When they increase sizes, they make it very clear on the box. When they decrease them, they make it almost impossible to tell that they've changed.
A gallon is 4.4L bro
A 44 gallon drum is around 175L
US gallons are 20% bigger than imperial gallons. I wish this wasn't true.
A standard 44 gallon drum is 200 litres. It's called a 55 gallon drum in the US.
…and a kilo is 2.2lbs.anywhere in the world.
Weren't these 2.0 kg? When did they switch to 1.8?
Was is it because of 'customer feedback', like when Cadbury reduced the size of their family blocks?
Here's a recent OzBargain pic…
Sorry, can't upvote dodgy companies.
Reducing the product by 10% and still claiming it's half price is deceptive and misleading…
