Buying New SUV- Honda CRV 2020 - Oil Dilution Concerns

Hi All,

I am planning to buy Honda CR-V, but got some news about Oil Dilution. Is that an issue anymore? If it is, I might consider buying Mazda CX-5 or CX-8.

Any thoughts about 1.5 turbo CVT engine over this issue?
Has anybody has any info or experience with Honda?

  • Nevermind - reread the question

  • You will get oil dilution with every diesel as they have a DPF.

    • How would an exhaust filter affect oil quality? I also think OP is asking about the issue of fuel getting into the oil rather than oil dilution in general.

Op is asking about the petrol Honda's, and not all dpf equipped vehicles suffer oil dilution.

So I'm assuming this is something to transport your grandkids around and get to the local bowls club?

Weren't you looking to invest in a second hand car last month OP?

    • Yeah but found out second hand cars not many cars out there. And the cars out there are quite overpriced because of COVID. Nobody wants to use public transport anymore.

Oil dilution should be the last of your worries with a new CRV. All indications are Honda would be the next Holden, closing shop and leaving Australia as no one seems to be wanting to buy their cars these days. Get the Mazda or even better; Rav4

    • Honda will be staying, but sticking to a fixed price model, afaik. Which will see the start of the number of dealerships decreasing

      Good, hope they do leave.

Quite a few years ago we already owned a CRV and went to buy a new Honda and the dealers were absolute jerks, making out like they were doing us a favour allowing us to buy one. On the way home we stopped at the Mazda dealer and bought one. Would never even put a Honda on my list after that experience.

  • Don’t own a Honda. But I’ve owned a few direct injected engines.

If you do a lot of short trips or drive your car In a spirited way, I’d look at 6 monthly oil changes. Just make sure whoever is doing your servicing uses good synthetic oil.

My personal favourite is Shell Heelix. But any other reputable brand will be fine.

  • My mum had an unassuming EK civic in the mid 90s, and it was amazing. Back then Honda was this meme magic brand that did whimsical things like put secret foldaway tables into CRVs and inspired comedy punchlines like "VTEC just kicked in yo".

Shame the brand and also the CRV is the way it is now. I'd get a CX-5 too if I had to pick that class, just for the reliability and ease of resale.
