Telco That Lets You Choose/Pick Number before Sign up

Besides Amaysim, what other telecom companies do that? I do enjoy picking my favorite number before actually signing up service. Thanks

Optus does instore, usually get 5 or so choices on the screen and depending on how busy, the person will let you refresh for more till you get one you like.

    • All randomly with no matching criteria provided?

      • Yes randomly generated on the screen. You don't get to choose specifics.

Alternative is buy one from eBay but beware dodgy sellers and scammers.

    • used to be able to do it on their website when activating prepaid sim too, if you're not happy just close the browser and start again until you get what you want

  • Why not port your existing number (if you have one)?

    • I want a new number and would like to be able to pick my own, better yet, let me get one with numbers i like

      • Option, go to store (Coles/woolies/7eleven etc) look for $2 starter pack, number will be on some of them. Pick the one you like, active with min. Amount and port out if need to for the desired plan.

        • I think the numbers are in the sleeves

If you haven’t seen them, most telcos will sell you a gold or silver number. Also seen on eBay and gumtree.
Amaysim is the only one I know that lets you sort through them online.

    • No, havent seen any before. Still pretty new, first provider i have had was with Telstra

  • With Telstra, by default number searches returns 5 numbers, but you can keep requesting a different number until you’re happy with it

    • …but all random with no specific filtering? Like with numbers i want

      • you can request (for example) "040011" numbers, or something like that

  • Here comes ending in 42069

  • Amaysim let’s you enter 5 digits and gives suggestions based on those from which you can choose. With number portability, you could choose the number you want with Amaysim and then switch almost immediately

    • …and switch almost immediately? Switch provider?

      • technically you have to have some credit to reply to the text confirming you're switch

        • I tried it once without credit. I basically contacted support and told them the code i received and they switched me over.

  • Pretty sure that Boost pre-paid gives you a selection of numbers from a list.

    • On its website before committing?

  • Vodafone does it as well

    • How do they do it? Wonder how i can pick a number i like before committing

On their website they will give you a list of 5 numbers or so to choose from. You can refresh that as many times as you wish to hopefully find something you like. At the store you can nominate a 3 digit number and they will find a few candidates with the number in it. I wanted to have 365 in my number so they gave me a few options to do a picking, which i did.

I'm actually in the process of doing this too. The Telstra/Optus/Vodafone/Amaysim are the only providers that let you pick a number. Some are premium numbers that you have to pay for.

Go onto the Amaysim site and buy a $10 PAYG sim or whatever is cheapest. When you select "get a new number" you can search the combination of numbers you want up to 5 digits.
They'll send out the sim, activate it through Amaysim.
Buy a sim card with the company you actually want to use and port the number out during the activation process.

    • The best time was 2-3 month ago when Amaysim offered a free 28 days plan and you can pick a preferred number.

  • At the Telstra shop we could search for a string of numbers
Ie 45791 and all available combinations would come up.

If you wanted to select a prepaid number forget about it.
