Looking to Buy a PSU, Is This a Dodgy Item?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking to buy this Corsair CX550m on Amazon to complete my build but it looks super weird, like the seller is CRSAR haha not Corsair. Would you trust this item, even though its fulfilled by Amazon Au?

Thanks!

I would assume so seeing that the product is at the Amazon warehouse. If you do get scammed Amazon would refund you the money.

Ships from and sold by Amazon AU.

    • ok thanks, just nervous as i don't want the power supply to ruin the rest of my build lol

      • When you say trust do you mean that u think you wont get the product or are you talking about it being a clone?

        • maybe being a clone and thats why its called CRSAR and not Corsair

@pingualien: Gotcha. From the review there only seems to be one negative. Just to confirm the product is real you could take a picture of the batch and serial number and send it to Corsair to verify.

Shipped and sold by amazon, dodgy as mate.

Rma can be done direct through corsair so as long as the product is legit, you're not out of luck.

Main thing is what system you are sticking it in. If your system is cheap enough to risk an unknown seller, there are other brands and models from better sellers to consider. If it's high spec, spend more for better. Don't skimp out on the PSU.

    • thanks for that, have spent around 1.2k with the AMD Ryzen 3600 and all the other deals from ozbargain so far. Was hoping to purchase this one as it seems to be a better PSU but shipping is in August. https://www.amazon.com.au/CORSAIR-RM550x-Fully-Modular-Suppl…

      • OK, so something like a 1660ti or maybe a 2060 in the build.

RM550x is an excellent unit with some competition that can last multiple builds. But if you can't wait, CX550M is perfectly fine.

        • thanks! Yeah i have got a 1660 super with the 3600

  • It's sold by Amazon (not only fulfilled) - very very very unlikely to be dodge.

If it is dodge, you can still return. FWIW I bought a similar thing to this - slight typo in name for a product about $100 cheaper than everywhere else online (keyboard). Product came was fine.

    • what keyboard did you buy? also wanting to buy one haha
i think ill take the risk with it and if not can return it

      • Was an ASUS ROG one, since fixed and price changed too: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07W3VCNQ6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i…

Personally wouldn't recommend spending that much on a keyboard (was for a household member), I use a Kogan mech cheapie 😂

        • hahaha yeah i cant ever imagine spending 200 on a keyboard! How is the kogan one going for you?

          • @pingualien: Great - the clicky blue keys annoy the rest of the family, but it types great — well worth the $30 I spent on it.

            • @blighst: awesome, will definitely have a look into buying it haha

  • Could also buy from centrecom, unless you are using an amazon gift card…

thanks i think that is a different one called CV

      • Oh yeah you're right damn, $30 extra for the modular cables. My bad.

        • yeah haha amazon seems to be the only one that are decently priced rn

  • Nobody better for returns than Amazon! It's all legit Corsair. If you do have issues with it, it's just bad luck. Either way Amazon have you covered for returns and Corsair obviously have a huge warranty on PSUs. Which Amazon themselves support too, so either way you're covered.

    • Thanks for the reply, I’ve purchased it so hopefully it’s all good and no need to return

    CRSAR

The biggest retailer in the world can't hire someone to proofread before listing?

Buy a seasonic PSU, cant go wrong

Check the manufacturer warranty, at least 7 years!!!

Most seasonic PSU warranty go for 10-12 years

I would say a copy, read the review.

Worked fine for a few months, then PC just switched off, and now power supply no longer works. Annoying. And unable to return as there is only a 30 day return window!?

  • Dodgy sellers on Amazon are usually those that "just launched", sells very few items and have super long store names

  • I purchased the 650w version from that very listing in December when it was on sale - the one I got was genuine* and is working in the PC I'm typing this on right now.

(*I also have other CXx50M PSUs purchased elsewhere in other PCs around the house, the packaging and cables what not from the Amazon one were the same as from the other regular online PC parts retailers, so either I got really convincing fakes from three different retailers or they're all legit)

    • haha thanks for the reassurance, seems like they're real and its just a typo

  • all good, everyone looks legit lol
