I have 50 stores blocked as they're not relevant to me, and now I can't block any new stores.
For those wondering, I don't drink tea or coffee and want to block stores that are exclusively for coffee and tea. But there are a lot of them (in addition to a few other random stores I have blocked).
Is there a reason for the limitation? Can it be raised to 255 or something?

2^8 - 1 = 255. Powers of 2 are common in computing including sizes of memory cards.

Perhaps exclude by tag instead of store - you'll get wider coverage that way. I imagine it would start to get kind of expensive to check a "large" exclusion list every time the deal list is loaded.
Tag exclusion is even more expensive. Yes — store blocking limit is there for a reason because te queries are more taxing to the backend. 50 is just an arbitrary number that I think should be enough for most people but maybe it's not the case.
Is Tag exclusion a universal settings or would it be possible for someone to apply for a 'limit increase' on a case by case basis?

Must be talking about those independents that offer coffee or probably fitness (protein) in some sort of deal. I mean, is there something really wrong with scrolling?

Chatime, T2, directcoffee, Starbucks, there's literally hundreds of these stores, with at least one on the front page every day or 2.
Perhaps a more elegant solution is to add a category for 'caffeinated beverages' so that I can then filter by category.
