Best Way to Port an Inactive Mobile Number

Hi I have an Optus mobile phone number that has not been active for a few months now. I want to activate it but these days most of carriers need the mobile number to be active and be able to receive verification code.I went to Telstra shop and people there told me they wont activate an inactive mobile phone number.

How to port my inactive mobile number from Optus to Telstra or Amaysim or even Kogan. Is anyone know a carrier that does not require an active mobile number and do not require verification code?

You number may already be allocated to someone else.

    • Its only a few months and I can see its still under my name.

      • If it’s been longer than 90-180 days the number could have been allocated to someone else.

Otherwise your only option is to re-activate it with Optus possibly on a cheap $5-$15 PAYG plan to receive the SMS, you may also be able to use a $2 sim starter kit.

I also had the same issue and it turned out it that all telcos require this now as it is required by law. Link to post.

        • thanks for your reply and link, its very helpful. The number is still in my account.

    • As usual you say nothing helpful.

and I will say even less helpful as I dont support nastiness

  • If it’s only a few months old and (still under your name) it’ll be under quarantine meaning the other providers can’t touch it.

They do this to protect themselves ie accidental disconnection etc. if they accidentally disconnect a number it stays with that telco for a certain amount of time.

With Telstra I believe it was 90 days.

  • Call Optus and chat with them. It can be retrieved from quarantine

  • Vodafone. If you are still able to receive SMS but you have no credit to send out SMS reply, you can call to tell them the SMS code.

  • Porting to Amaysim:
    - receive SMS
    - input code on website

  • Call boost by phone. No SMS code to port.
