I'll be looking to get a PS5 when they become available later this year.
If I activate PlayStation Plus before acquiring one, will I be able to claim the monthly free games without having a PS4?

Thanks.
I fully understand that I'd need an active subscription.
I've just had agreement from my other half on getting a PS, with the comment there's no point in getting a PS4 with a new generation coming out in November.
The games available on PlayStation Plus sell often for very cheap, and I doubt you would play all of them unless you have a lot of free time. In other words, think twice if you really want the subscription.
It's more that if there is a specific game on there October/November that is of interest I could get it before activating the console in December.
I can claim games without logging into my PS. I just browse in on my computer and claim them on the website.
You can purchase games via the playstation store online with an active PS+ subscription. I do this during the week and then auto download to the PS4.
I'm more just concerned that PS plus wouldn't allow you to play PS4 redeemed games on a PS5 when it releases.
I thought the monthly games that come out for free on PlayStation plus is console specific eg: PS3, PS4 or PS Vita
Not sure though, happy to be corrected
You'd be much better off just looking for bargain copies of the best PS4 games IMO.
God of War
The Last of Us (Part 1 and 2)
Spiderman
Uncharted Series
Batman Arkham series
GTA V
Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2
Detroit: Become Human
That's a ton of gaming right there and is going to be far better than whatever you'll get from a PS plus membership.
I'm not considering getting it now, more that if a title I'm interested in is available a month or so before I activate the console, it may be worth doing.
I'm only really interested in the PS exclusives, as I've missed those for the current generation.
No guarantees if all psn games would work/compatible with PS5.
Understood.
Yes. They get added to your Plus account and you can download them whenever you want - as long as you maintain a current Plus subscription.
If you're only going to play offline/single player games, as others have pointed out, it might not be worth it. In that case you could get the games you're interested in second hand and not get a Plus sub at all.
The question of what will work on the PS5 is unanswerable at this point … but my instinct is that they'll all run. Could well be wrong though!!
It's looking quite hopeful based on statements from Sony

It's what I do every month on my PC.
Yes but the games aren't free. You need a paid account and to claim every month.
