Skycomp has the stock again for this newly released Synology ds920+.
It's $28 cheaper than previous deal, it is $899 + shipping, I believe this is the best price at the moment.

No.
$59 shipping to Perth :o
that's what happens when you live out in the sticks.
Said the Victorian ;-)
True. We're still locked down, but you can't hold me down :)
Here is very good comparison between two. And short answer is save money and buy 918+ unless DDR 4 ram and about 0.5ghz processing power makes big difference to you.
RRP is US$549 so in a fair world the RRP here would be $899 not $999. I wouldn't pay that but if you're very keen for a bit of extra speed and a few years extra support you might.
A big problem is Synology are hopeless at passing on new tech. For every 5 steps the rest of the world advances they advance 1.
Any alternative suggestion as I am on the market for a new NAS to replace my broken N54L.
I'm in the market too and looking at the alternative of qnap QNAP TS-453D but a tad high at the moment I guess as limited stock.
Im holding out on a deal for the 453D too. My windows box died recently (running blueiris for my surveillance cameras), but I want to physically downsize and the offering from Synology for their surveillance camera software only allows for 2 free camera licenses. Whereas QNAP offer 8 free camera license. The camera licences for Synology are not cheap and bring the price back up over the 453 price. So I think QNAP is a better option.
My DS918+ is running on 16G Crucial RAM. Since when do they call RAM slots 2 -> 1 an upgrade?
what model of ram did you get? i read so many conflicting posts on these ram upgrades
Just checked my purchase history for ya. They're "Crucial 16GB 2x8GB DDR3L-1866Mhz PC3L-14900 204pin Sodimm Nonparity Laptop RAM". I paid $78 for them and then sold the brand new genuine original 4GB RAM for $80. So free upgrade for me from 4GB to 16GB and I even earned $2 lol. I'm running mutilple docker on this NAS so bigger RAM is a solid upgrade I need.
It might have 2 slots. Can certainly be upgraded at least.

I think that article is talking about removing one 4GB memory stick (of two) and replacing it with a 16GB stick, for a total of 20GB.
Reads as 4GB onboard and a single user expandable add-on slot?
"you can install a single module of 16GB DDR4 Memory (in the single available slot) meaning you can have a Synology DS920+ with 20GB of Memory! "
Is this worth $200+ over the DS918?
