A much much faster gaming desktop plus a more portable small budget laptop would be cheaper (and better for most people). So consider that option too.

he left it too late and is wanting this for TAX. I second the desktop! 'Gaming laptop' is an oxymoron imo

Pretty disgusting that its still $2k for those specs. I understand some people need portability but I couldnt justify it

I need to walk into one of the major retailers and pick it up today.

There's your first misstep. You'll be paying full price. Why do you need it today? If you had planned you could have gotten it directly from Lenovo for $1600.

Secondly gaming laptops do not hold their value. In a year that will be worth $1,000
Thirdly they are loud, heavy and have a terrible battery life. It will be always sitting on a desk, plugged in… like a desktop.

The only good thing is you can easily move it between places. Will that happen enough to justify it?
For two grand you could build a monster PC that'll destroy this.

    Cons of the laptop:
    Only a 15.7" screen.
    1080p resolution.
    Only 512gb storage (no HDD?)

    • Why do you need it today?

To claim it on tax apparently.

  • I built almost this exact built (AMD not Intel) for my partner in a desktop version and spent like $1100 or something….Laptops are a rip off for gaming because you cant upgrade, you just have to buy a new laptop every time.

I just checked my Cash Rewards account, you're right.

Still a good deal without it though.

A lot of gaming laptop haters here. I say be aware of the pros and cons of gaming laptops and make a decision.
The main advantage of gaming laptops is of course portability, the question is if you'll make good use of it.
Consider both portability out and about, and around the home. The trade off is power and/or price.
I own a gaming laptop and am very happy with it, many people aren't because they didn't properly consider it.
And the price of that Lenovo isn't good. Unfortunately, you probably won't find any good deals walking in store and buying today

  • Thanks for your insights everyone.

  • If you don't actually need it today, just the invoice then try Metabox or one of their resellers like Kong Computers. They might be able to invoice you today.

Dell's dropped the price on their G5 range, bringing the GTX1660Ti and RTX2060 versions under $2k see my updated post

    • I've previously ordered dells via ebay and they don't invoice the same day. Too late for anything tax related for this FY.
