Hi guys, I'm after a new TV (Samsung is dying, apps are crashing, it's becoming a pain in the ass). I'm limited to 65 inch size as it lives above a chimney stack, and I couldn't care about the brand. I'm after a 65 inch 4k TV, with android OS (this is important, as the Samsung OS my current TV has is rubbish and missing apps, I've seen that many modern OS' also don't have certain apps), and I want micro dimming, (because that seems to be the thing). I don't care if it's last years model or this years. I can't seem to find anything that fits my requirements. The Sony X8000H does everything apart from microdimming, and the LG Nano 86 does everything apart from it has a rubbish OS. I don't want to plug in a set top box, I have them, I don't use them, I just want a TV which has native apps built into a good OS. I've got a projector for the other stuff (with set top boxes), but I just want an easy TV to throw youtube/netflix/Disney/Prime/foxtel on without any fussing around. Any help would be appreciated.

If you must get an Android TV model, Sony's X9500G series has local dimming.
I'd prefer as low as possible. It's not my primary goto screen. Under $2k is preferable. The closer to one, the better.
I thought the X8000H doesn't have local dimming, it seems to be edge lit from all the specs I have read?

My bad, I initially posted that it did when I read "Direct LED" (as opposed to "Edge LED") on Sony's website, only to scroll a bit further and see that it only does edge dimming.
Here's a list of some options.
Damn, it appears most of those aren't available in Australia. Pretty much limited to high end Sony Models. Do I really need local dimming?
@[Deactivated]: The Sony models have equivalents here, they're just named differently.
Local dimming is good if you watch movies, TV shows, or HDR content.
@psyren89: from the looks of it, the Sony with local dimming is about $4500 here, way too much. That's OLED money, but then I don't get Android. I've noticed the Hisense 2019 OLED can be picked up for around $2k, very tempted, but it seems to have mixed reviews.
I think it's a straight fight between the Sony X8000 and the LG Nano 86. Both have short falls, but I guess I have to compromise somewhere.
If in Melbourne, go to call up Costco Epping and ask if they have stock of x95g for 2.3k
Look at TCL QLED models. TCL Smart TVs are Android based and their 2020 models have been getting great reviews.
I was going to get a TCL C815 today but it was sold out. Then I read the reviews and they were overwhelmingly negative. They also don’t have local dimming.
All X series have local dimming and it is even mentioned in the spec page above
The X10 isn’t released yet, and it’s an LED mini screen. It’s almost $5000 rrp.
@[Deactivated]: Anything wrong with X7 ?
https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/tcl-65-inch-4k-u…@websterp: Looking at replies on here about that TV, it’s has pretty mixed reviews, but at its lowest price (~$1000) it was great value. At $1400 not so much.
@[Deactivated]: I bought the X7 2 months ago when there was a 15% off all TCL TV's and think it's a great TV. Great colors and since it's an Android TV you have access to every app in the Google Play store.
@Lintzman: Yeah, honestly it seems like the best option, but they are out of production, and there are only a few of them available on ebay for a premium price ($1400). The ozbargainer in me can't spend $1400 on one when people here picked them up for $800 after cash back. The other option is the old Sony X95g, but I noticed that the power and hdmi are on opposite sides to my current set up, and owing to the restrictive mounting and cabling situation on my 120 year old fireplace, it might present some serious issues. I think I'll wait for an ebay sale and hope I can pick up an X7 for closer to $1000.
"needed"
I would prefer Android TV, too, but LG's WebOS has pretty reasonable feedback.
You haven't told us your budget, so by default I'd just recommend you get an OLED (Sony if you want Android TV, LG if you don't care).
