Can You Make a Whole Bag of Chips in an Air Fryer?

More specifically, the 3.5L Kmart air fryer?
Obvioulsy they'd all fit into the basket, as a bag of chips is 1kg and slightly denser than water.

I wouldn't think that the middle would cook all that well, but what about if you take it out and toss it a couple of times?

If the answer is sill now, what about the next size up?

You won't regret buying a bigger air fryer I think! I have the phillips XL and sometimes I wish I had the XXL

    • The bigger one isn't in stock though, so it's between waiting or getting the smaller one. How many chips can you make in yours?

        33.33

        Recurring of course.

Can confirm XXL easily does a 1kg bag. I don't even toss half way through and they're usually great.

I'd wait and get the one that can do the job easily.

        • Just to add to this, my XXL fits 8 wingettes + tips/ drumettes without stacking.

I was really grateful that I went for the XXL, it was on sale for $224 on Amazon, would recommend it to anyone if the price came back!

    No.

You need air between the chips for them to be crunchy so no you'd need to do it in batches.

    • And I think you need to use pre-cooked frozen chips.

I tried with some ambient temperature potatoes that I cut up crisply… all were burnt AND soggy.
And yes, I split it into two batches. Also set the timer to 10mins instead of the "chips" setting which wanted 22mins.
So yeah, learn from my mistakes experiments : )

  • They’d probably all fit in the oven you already have though. I don’t get how people struggle to cook frozen chips in an oven. Dump on a tray, and mix around like twice. I’ve never had them made any better in an air fryer.

    • Some gas ovens suck at making crispy food.

      • Possibly because they actually create water as a byproduct.

    • i think it takes longer to get oven up to temp … no ?

Expensive air fryers are a scam imo. Kmart one, fine, they're cheap.
If you're buying those Philips ones though, may as well buy a fan forced convection oven, perhaps a Breville Smart Oven.

  • I have the XXL and can cook 1.2kg frozen chips in 16-20 on 200 degrees, just leave and set, no basket shaking.
