Choosing a 1TB NVMe SSD

So, I'm building a bitsa PC, gradually upgrading bits along the way.

Next step is an SSD to replace my current Samsung 840 2.5". Looking for a 1TB NVMe.

I'm kinda at a loss on how to decide - I keep going round in circles between "they're all fast, just pick a cheap-ish one" to "may as well get a really good one, they aren't that expensive".

Options I'm considering:

  • Crucial P1 - $170 at Amazon
  • Kingston A2000 - $180 delivered from shoppingexpress
  • WD SN550 Blue - around $180-200
  • WD SN750 Black - around $220 on Amazon (assuming that deal comes back)

Honestly I'm not that unhappy with the performance of the current 840, just need more space with the size of games these days.

Any help would be appreciated!

Your choices are fine, but I'll add the ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB just to keep your option open.
If you're not fussy of where you're getting the drive from, just pick the cheapest 1 on that list when you do your purchase. I tend to try to get my drives from my local shops, just in case of warranty claim.

I've been very happy with the Kingston. The Crucial is also a solid choice.

  • Compare them all & buy the best one.

    • Isn't userbenchmark unreliable?

Personally I'd just go with the Samsung 970 EVO Plus, around $250 for 1TB at the moment with the cashback promotion.

  • Don't get the blue
I use 256GB SSD for my gaming drive but I install games to a 4TB HDD
It holds ALL my games. You won't notice any difference during games,
it is just during levels where you will notice the difference.

Do you want faster level loadings?
Or do you want ALL your games on the one HDD?
(with it cloned every now and then of course)
