Covid Testing Requirement for Kids

GP referred to do Covid testing for kids. It was mentioned on the referral script to do both throat and nasal testing, however the pathology only did nasal swab. I specifically asked them why they were not doing throat to which they stated it wasn't required.

My partner also did test last week where throat and nasal was checked. I am concerned whether this will jeopardise the results.

Results will come on Monday so getting bit panicked.

    Nasal should be enough.

    • Glad to hear that

  • Nasal and Throat are both just as accurate, no need to worry.

Nasal is not accurate, contact a current affairs.

So you trust the opinions of random people on OzBargain more than a pathologist?

    • The medical centre is closed tomorrow and the test for partner contained both nasal and throat swab.

I am hoping someone who did test recently can shed some light.

      • I believe that both methods were done in the beginning because it wasn't known if one was more accurate than the other.

Now there's been enough tests done to show the single swab is effective.

My 2yo was tested during the week. Nasal only. Trust the system - its not in their interests to not test properly!

Did a test for 9month old so bit extra cautious. Thanks for the advice.

      • They don't do the nasal test for younger than 6 or 8, can't remember what they told me. That was what I was told when we got our 9 year old tested. This was at the Chadstone Drive through testing centre

        • My 4 year old was nasally tested in Sydney.

Where are you taking your 9month old to catch covid?..

  • When I did the test it was only 2x nasal swabs, no throat

  • Nasal usually has the most accuracy. If you are concerned, do it again for more accuracy.

For NSW health the policy keeps changing and due to the shortage they swab the nose first and then the throat

It's throat first then nose (unless the person was being rude to you, then nose first)

      • Lol probs just what ever order. I got nose first and boy was I glad for the throat one after both nostrils hahaha

      • My bad. Should have checked it .

Is the testing better yet. I don't want to be tested till it isn't stuck into my nose to the point where it goes into ur throat. I am way to anxiousbforba test like that.

    • Yeah it is daunting for sure. Apparently there will be a less invasive test in VIC this week.

The nasal swab hurts or is uncomfortable for about a second. For me my eyes instantly cried me a river and so did my nose, so I drove out of my local testing site laughing because I couldn't find a tissue in my car. Not even an old Maccas serviette! An ABC reporter likened the sensation to an 'extreme shot of wasabi' which I thought was accurate too haha

  • You wanted it in both the mouth and nose, but just got it in the nose?
