      indeed, something along the lines of;
COTD - Centon 64GB USB Stick $75.90 with shipping

i think it is a Centon (from googling around), don't you just hate it when they seem to hide the brand name

A comment from an amazon user, that is confirmed with the wording cotd uses.

"I purchased two of these drives having had good luck with other DS Sport sticks. Turns out the 64GB drives do not 'work with Windows & Mac', they work with Windows OR Mac. Stick comes formatted as NTFS and isn't compatible with Mac. You can reformat it, but then it's not compatible on PC. If you need Mac & PC, this is a useless product."

    • +3

couldn't you simply format it to exFAT, it should then be compatible with both Windows and MacOSX

      • Yep was just about to edit my comment and say that, was just googling it to make sure. The Centon website also says windows and mac.

    • +3

Look up NTFS-3G and then you can write to an NTFS drive from a Mac.

    • This is no different to any other Flash drive. This commenter is to stupid to understand computers.

Speeds are abysmal according to the Centon website. The usb drive is made by Centon.

    Technology: Waterproof USB
    Capacity: 64GB
    Interface: USB 2.0
    Speed: Standard Speed
    Write Speed: 3 MB/s
    Read Speed: 3 MB/s

The 16GB and 32GB models get bit faster speeds according to this site

Bit hard to believe they would make a usb this size with such slow read/write speeds.

    • +2

Most regular joes wouldn't even think of looking at the read/write speeds.

      • Those poor regular joes. This makes these drives incredibly impractical. Even some cheapo discontinued 1GB USB drives I bought 4 years ago go at 6MB/s.

    • Wow that is lousy. Makes it pretty useless for day-to-day use.

      • What? I disagree. 3MB/s means my Word docs would transfer no problems.

        • LOL, I believe you don't need a 64 GB flash drive for word documents….

    • +1

wowwww absolutely ABYSMAL speeds. do. not. want.

  • mixed reviews on Amazon, anybody here actually used this brand before? Warranty would be a bugger as the returns address is in USA.

    HUGE 64GB MEMORY!

Is this different to normal 64GB memory?

    • +3

Going out on a limb for this one but I'd have to say .. no.

      • :)

      • better than the TINY 64GB MEMORY

  • +4

If those read/write speeds are accurate (and manufacturer's would usually exaggerate rather than the opposite) then there is no way anyone should buy this. At 3MB/s, it would take 5:30min to write 1GB and 6hours to write the whole 64GB…

    • +4

This should almost be advertised as USB 1! Mind you, by the time you receive it from COTD, 64TB usb 4 drives will be free in cereal packets.

  • The water resistance is hardly a selling point. I have put several flash drives into the laundry before (mostly just Cruzer blades), and they work fine after drying out.

    • +4

Trying to clean all the viruses hey?

      • Yeah, damn those dirty infected public computers in internet cafe's… they may be cheap, but they're often riddled with infectious viruses!

Gotta be careful where you put your USB stick in. Always get protected first!

  • Too slow for my liking. Will take awhile doing anything at 3MB/s. My very first ever USB 1GB drive I paid $99 for many years ago (still working today) manages 7.5MB/sec, this seems like a massive step backwards with USB3 around the corner. Would have jumped on it if it could manage 15+, well jumped next to it to avoid breaking it I suppose.

  • Why would anyone bother with this type of drive, it's slow and an unknown brand here in Australia. Who handles the warranty? All USB drives and sd cards are relatively waterproof as they all cover/coat the internal parts in a layer of silicon, it's part of the manufacturing process these days for flash memory.

  • +2

Had a look on static ice, you can get better speeds, same size for a little cheaper.

  • +1

WaterProof - nice to have, Write and Read Speed - Absolutely required - this one lacks!

  • +2

Nothing special. It makes these 'great deals' sites look like a sham when majority of the selling points detail unnecessary specs about their ability to be ruggedised but almost nothing to do with the important details like whether it's USB 2 or 3 and its read/write speeds. The width of the casing is too wide and waterproofness of a USB is totally unnecessary.

  • Friends, please dont fall into COTD or SCOOPONS traps. I used to check the websites on daily basis, and even bought heaps. sure some times it may be few $$$ cheaper, but the time I had to wait and the frustrations it caused me, its not worth it. Some times they took 2 months to deliver. And also SCOOPONS, I been on the waiting list for more than a month for a car wash and a dinner for 2, which expired few last week….. its all frustration and disappointment. Also check this out, finally government wants to step in

  • Read/write speeds are a joke.
