It should be fine. When I used to fish a lot I had a $100 shimano combo and my friends had combos that cost easily 5 or 6 times what I paid. Sure, their gear was nicer to use than mine but they didn't land substantially more fish than I did.
I'd buy one but Box Hill is a bit far to be worth it when I've got other rods.
Yeah it'll be fine for a beginner. Definitely not worth RRP but for 10 bucks it's a no-brainer.
They're good and it has a built in upgrade time notification.
The reel will seize on a good fish and it will drag the rod into the water.
Pretty sure that feature is included in this model.

Anyone looking for good cheap fishing rod/reel combos check out the Jarvis Walker combos at K Mart. 6.6 & 7ft $25, telescopics around $20?
Not as flash as top of the line combos but good value.
Yep I use the telescopics from kmart and they have worked well for a long time with added bonus of folding down for easy transport
