1800 to Be Free from Mobiles and 1300 to Be Cheaper

"ACMA said it planned to update the country's telephone numbering plan so that calls from mobiles to 1800 numbers will be free. Its proposal would see the definition of 1800 as well as 13 and 1300 numbers changed to reflect pricing parity with fixed lines. But phone users will be forced to wait at least a year until the changes come into effect in order to give phone companies and providers enough time to implement any fee changes."

Good news for those on mobile plans that rip us off with 1300 1800 numbers!

  • Thanks for posting that's great news. I rarely call 1800 and 1300 numbers from a mobile because of the high cost, and the fact that these calls are charged on top of the cap on some plans.

I still prefer to call these numbers from a landline to reduce the effects of radiation overdose due to the long wait times you sometimes encounter when you call these type of numbers.

  • I only used once calling 13 number on a mobile. it is becoz Im desperate.

In general never have call 18 or 13 on mobile.

  • i did once for calling taxi, that bloody expensive, i have to wait almost 10 minutes

    Interesting move.

Would companies that have a 800 number be charged more when someone calls from a mobile phone? I can see a market for phone forwarders like the ones they have now for mobile numbers. Imagine getting a $2 sim and utilising a 800 number to get free calls.
