How to Build a Home Office/WFH Space for Cheap

Building a home office/WFH space in the spare bedroom. Not looking to spend too much, would appreciate your money saving tips or better products.

Where can I find a bargain for the following products or better products for cheaper?

monitor: https://tinyurl.com/y7eddtkx (would Amazon be cheapest for computer monitors?)

monitor arm: https://tinyurl.com/y9l76j6s (running dual monitors so I'll need this)

sit&stand desk: https://tinyurl.com/yasc6tkn (must be motorised - cheapest I could find is Ikea)

foot rest: https://tinyurl.com/y7dkcvrz (been using shoe boxes/stack of printing paper for years - time for an upgrade)

I've already got a great office chair. Am I missing anything else for a comfortable home office space?

Edit: I've also got a work laptop, PC and peripherals.

  • Is your spare room carpet? Only thing I'd add is a floor mat if it isn't.

    • and also standing mat

If you see it in stock, then get this sit/stand desk from Officeworks
    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/matrix-sit…

I have it, and it is great. For me, being able to program the heights in was a deal breaker, I can easily change between sitting and standing by just pressing one button.

The desk is very sturdy, I regularly lean on it without issues.

    • I liked their 180cm one but at $749 vs $569 at Ikea hmm

  • Just buy used stuff of facebook marketplace or gumtree. Will save a heap

    • Not an option for the monitor I want or standing desk.

The monitor arm is a possibility but unbranded so quality unknown.

    Oh my…..
I bought a $25 K-mart desk late March. Using a shoe box as monitor stand. Sitting on a dining chair. So far so good, managing to use Ozbargain in comfort.

    • $25 for a standing desk?

      • I think what Make it so meant was, he bought a $25 desk and used a shoe box (or multiple shoe boxes) to suit his position (standing/sitting).

I have a laptop stand for when I am sitting down, and a few boxes if I would like to stand up.

        • That wasn't quite what I meant, but it's a brilliant idea! I just ordered Asics from Kogan from the 60% off deal, so more shoe boxes are on the way :)

      • No - for a bog standard simple desk. The ergonomics of my setup would make any chiropractor cringe. But it's cheap! My entire setup, including chair, fits in less than 1m².

Cheap in the short term, possibly expensive (permanent chronic body issues) in the long term.

Make a chiropractor rub their hands with glee you mean

          • @John Kimble: True, though any time I had such issues, my posture was to blame, more than my setup.

I’d add a external keyboard and mouse to that setup!
