The Australian and The Daily Telegraph Paywalls

Hello fellow OzBargainers,

I'm wondering if anyone has had any good luck at finding alternative resources to access specific articles on The Australian or The Daily Telegraph without paying subscription fees?

SMH there is a great trick, incognito mode and then the cookies don't track you on your 5 "free" articles…but how do we get past The Australian and DT?

I really want to read this article https://www.theaustralian.com.au/subscribe/news/1/?sourceCod… but can't access it.

I've tried PressReader, ProQuest. I haven't been able to get logged in to EBSCOHOST or Factiva which might hold true.

I just want to find a database I can 1) actually get a login to and 2) be able to paste the whole headline in and maybe limit to the date of the article (or at least close range) and it pop up straight away.

Any tips appreciated!! To help a fellow bargain hunter from having to pay :)

    1) are you sure you want to put that much effort I? The overall quality is pretty sub par.
    2) maybe register with your library and see if they have a subscription.

  • I just want it for certain articles on a topic I am learning about (as a side project), for adhoc articles here and there, to clarify - I don't actually want to read the whole paper each day :) :)

Legacy Anti paywall Still works in Firefox Incognito mode (Manual install )

    https://github.com/nextgens/anti-paywall

But as Usual with the Un Oztralien The Comments are the best

What are they going to do when they get out? We have plenty of tattooed baristas.

The trade union party and Greens intend to shut down the mines, aluminium and iron smelting, internal combustion powered transport, acquire agricultural land for national parks, power for heat and electricity becomes increasingly unreliable and prices double again.

They keep bombarding my phone with clickbait articles. I've been stupid enough to click on them to have a read, only to see two sentences and a paywall. Basically, pissed me off enough times that I've blocked them from my phone. Or in layman's terms, I voted with my feet :D

  • Factiva has it as does ProQuest. A university library alumni subscription may be valuable to you. Some uni students get free access to the paper directly.I guess you could do a membership sharing thing such as with Netflix. Public libraries will have copies available. The WSJ is a great paper that is very cheap for Australians but doesn’t cover local stuff.

You sure you want to read opinions of Rupert Murdoch?

  • For Firefox you could try Anti-paywall: https://github.com/nextgens/anti-paywall/releases

It seems to work for me so far.

Is it a coincidence or The Australian/Herald Sun have upped their paywall and suddenly Anti Paywall doesnt work anymore.

Might need to check the compatible Firefox version because suddenly I cannot side load xpi as well.

    • Yeah, whatever they've done is quite effective at blocking multiple bypasses. But it just means I'll never read an article from both POS papers, so win-win I guess?
