Best Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse for Work/Studies (Logitech MX Keys and MX Master 3??)

What is the best bluetooth keyboard and mouse set?

Criteria (apart from being Bluetooth!)
1. Comfort
2. East of use
3. Not too worried about price
4. Switch from laptop to desktop to phone

I am looking at the Logitech MX Keys and MX Master 3 (as the MS Bluetooth desktop looked craptacular)

Have you looked into the MK850? The m720 is a good mouse if you don't need the mx master add-ons. The keyboard is really comfortable to use too. I've got a set that I use at the office for about 8 hours a day.

That being said the m720 is on the smaller side so if you've got bigger hands it may be a bit uncomfortable.

For home I ended up with an older MX5500 since I couldn't justify spending that much money on a set that's only going to see weekend use.

    • How big are your hands if the m720 is too small? Are you Tony Robbins?

      • It works fine for me, it's my manager with the same set that says the back and forward buttons on the side are too far down i.e bigger hands

Honestly been doubtful of MX Master mice for years, picked up the 3 and it has been amazing for my hand and wrist.

I think lots of my hand problems were made worse by the mouse I was using at the time.

  • I've been eyeing the MX Keys for some time now.

This is the setup I have right now
At work - K375s Keyboard, Mx Master 2s (CAD work) had a M720 before but convinced the wife she needed to upgrade her M215 so I could upgrade to MX Master ;)
At home - K800 Keyboard, Mx Master 2s (Still have the Performance MX in the drawer)
If it's not obvious, the MX Master 2s is a great mouse, I absolutely love it!! And I'd like to upgrade both keyboards to MX Keys to keep it uniform.

The K375s is a 'not-bad' type of keyboard, cheap, has multi device connectivity, the keys are spaced really tightly so gets a little while to getting used to, doesn't have a CAPS/NUM Lock light. I have kept it only for the multi device connectivity. Contemplated too much on the Logitech Craft deal at JB…now regretting not getting it.
The multi device connectivity is just so good, I highly recommend getting devices that are capable of that. So yea, if money is no objection then definitely get the MX combination.

I use a mechanical keyboard and a gaming mouse. Way better.
Typing on a membrane computer is like being kicked in the crotch

  • I use Razer Blackwidow stealth (short version without numpad- My space is limited). For mouse I use logitech anywhere MX.

  • Got the MX Master 3 a couple months ago. Took a while for my larger hands to get use to but it's pretty comfortable now. The forward/back buttons I feel are poorly placed (too far back) compared to my Deathadder. The horizontal scroll is very sensitive and feels a bit gimmicky and I never use it. I use it for CAD though, it may be more suited for programming

  • Checked out the MK850 keyboard, and it's soooo soft! I much prefer the MX Keys. The MK850 mouse is ok, for the price point - the MX master 3 though is in a different league.

    • Did you end up getting the MX Keys? I've been eyeing it for a while but there's been a severe lack of deals since the pandemic hit :/

      • I've been looking for one as well. I don't think there will be any deals soon for this keyboard..especially given the low stock everywhere. $199 delivered/pickup is best at OW right now. Discounted Coles-Myer gift cards might help bring down the price.

I think i saw one at JB they had 25% off all logitech gear, so it worked out to be 150 but then it's been lockdown and I have stayed with me MK700, which I prefer better than the MK850 tbh - both keyboard and mouse!

          • @db2k: FWIW I ended up buying the MX keys full price as my other keyboard wasn't really cutting it for WFH.

It's a solid keyboard but there's a few niggling things that detract from it overall. If given the chance to do it over I probably wouldn't pay full price - but I'm not unhappy with it and don't regret buying it.

            • @ProspectiveDarkness: My main concern was battery, as I have had my MK700 for over 10 years man … and it works great. I don't think the MX keys would last that long due to built in battery … If the MX Master 3 and MX keys took rechargeable batteries I'd buy at full RRP as they would defs last! How long does the battery last you?

@db2k: It lasts a decent amount of time, a few weeks between charges I guess? Would probably be longer if you left the backlighting completely off and turned the whole thing off at night. The proximity sensor for the backlighting helps though (though mine seems to trigger randomly sometimes, which is one of the flaws).

@db2k: I ended up buying in-store at JB. Just asked the sales guy what the best price was and he gave it for $185. Used 5% discounted JB gift card to pay so ended up with it for ~$175
Bought another one a few days later when JB had 5% off store-wide, which ended up being $146 after all the discounts.
Battery lasts about a month on mine, working 8 hours a day.

            • @alterego13: how do you find the MX Keys noise wise? My wife and I both sit in the same home office with mechanical keyboards which can be deafening for a 3rd party who is on the phone. I am after a very quiet keyboard and most reviews seem to point to MX Keys as a good option.

              • +1

@nextdoormaths: MX Keys is very quiet in my opinion.

The mouse click and scroll on my MX Master 2s is louder than the space bar keystroke (which is the loudest key, but not loud by any stretch of imagination) on the MX Keys.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Agdcf-oJdw <— This is a good video about the MX keys which also has a sound comparison.

Bear in mind, the typing feel is very very flat (but really gooood), so it might take some getting used to if you're coming from a Mechanical Keyboard.
                Hope this helped :)

              • @nextdoormaths: Agreed with @alterego13, it's very quiet. It'd do well in a shared office space, I think, and probably wouldn't be audible to people on a call.

I have a few keyboards in front of me and gave them all a try. The MX Keys is probably a tiny bit louder than the laptop keyboards (2014 Macbook Pro and Lenovo Thinkpad) and has a bit of a sharper, clickier sound. It's, of course, absolutely nowhere near as loud as the mechanical keyboard though (CoolerMaster SK630, MX Red switches - which funnily enough, is almost the same keyboard in the the HardwareCanucks youtube review) .For a bit more reference, my old mech keyboard had brown switches and was a bit louder overall than the reds IMO - and blue would be even louder than that.

                • @ProspectiveDarkness: Thank you heaps for the additional info. I am very very grateful. I'll go get 2 and reply back here with my review :)

                • @ProspectiveDarkness: Hmmm I have another question. I am seeing different layouts on different websites (and I don't just mean the normal vs mac ones). Some of the standard ones show the backslash key to the left of the ENTER key and others show the backslash key above the ENTER key. What do yours show?

                  • @nextdoormaths: I see what you mean. My keyboard which I got from Officeworks has the same layout as on the product page with the backslash above the rectangular enter key.

Not sure where JB Hi Fi are getting their image from, which has the square-ish enter key with adjacent back slash… might be the UK layout?

                    • @ProspectiveDarkness: All good. Picked up 2 from JB. I called and they confirmed the layout on the box is different to what they show on their website (the actual ones they sell look the same as the officeworks link above). Tomorrow I'll get to open them and give them a go!

I am using the Logitech G604 and I feel this product is a better version of the MX Master 3 mouse. It has a very similar shape and grip to the MX Master 3 including the thumb rest. It links via either the Lightspeed dongle or Bluetooth. I can switch between both modes too at the press of a button. It has a better tracking sensor and loads of buttons for productivity purposes. I can now do cut, paste, undo, switching apps, backward, forward, next music track, previous music track, up down scroll and left right scroll on the mouse without interrupting my left hand typing. The battery isn't rechargeable but I haven't been needing to swap the battery either. I don't turn off the mouse either, it goes to sleep when it needs to. The only thing I don't like about the product is the scroll wheel notches and the weight. Other than that I can say the G604 is very comfortable mouse and I like clicking the buttons. Very satisfying.

I think this is a very good pair with the MX Keys although I would go with a custom mechanical keyboard but that is an expensive detour. I am using the G604 with the Keychron K2 Version 2 (Gateron Brown), with both operating in Bluetooth mode.
