So my parents are both heavy-set and have other health problems, covid would really wipe them out. They say they aren't scared of the virus, but I want them to have a big pack of masks they can use if SA gets a big outbreak after borders open. I know they will both still work and I want them to have the masks, know that they are cheap enough not to worry about cost, and use them if they need to. Keep them in their cars. But where do you even buy adequate masks, what is an adequate mask, and how cheap do they get? I don't need like full quality N95 mask, just those normal masks that people are encouraged to wear. If they had a cute little animal or something on them I'm sure they'd wear them more often too.
A pack of masks for vulnerable family members.

Yes I see. Chemist warehouse is about three times as much as Amazon, but so many masks on Amazon have 4 or less stars. Disposable seems to be the way to go.
If you fear for your parents. Then u need the N95 masks. Those "normal masks" surgical masks are to "help" protect others from you. So they only really work if everyone or at least the majority of people are wearing them also. But if no one else is wearing masks (they wont be) and your worried about your parents, then they need the more expensive N95s or better
This is true.
If they are truly vulnerable, they should stay at home…..no contact = no chance of getting covid
Adding to this make sure they wear the N95 masks properly as they're useless if not fitted properly.
Daiso sells packs of masks cheaply, as does Reject Shop and Cheap as Chips.
If you need P2/N95 then go to Bunnings.
vitamin c + zinc supplements, works wonders
If you could provide a peer reviewed paper on whether vitamin C and zinc are beneficial in preventing or reducing the severity of COVID-19, that would be great.
Cant help people that dont want to be helped
Vitamin c and zinc are also good for preventing car accidents too, forms a big protective shield bubble over your body, no virus or cat can hit you.
Well, it isn't going to hurt in regular doses.
And regular exercise, good diet and positive mental health could be classed as COVID-19 preventives too!
Any idea where we could buy masks made in Taiwan?
Does it have to be Taiwan in particular? Or just not China? Bunnings sells 3M masks made in the USA.
why does it have to be Taiwan? they restricted mask exporting sometime since Feb/March, and they are now using it as a "diplomatic tool" than selling it.
China is always the main manufacturer, before Covid-19, they made at least/over 55-60% of the mask in the world, and now they produce even more mask than ever! (something like 80-85%?)
All you have to do is: buy the right one + right type!
(yeah it's hard to come by since the right one mostly goes to hospital, including China and they too have restricted mask exporting…long story on this!)so many medical/surgical & n95 mask out there are less useful/protection, including those in Chemist Warehouse! (I have been following Covid-19 news/announcement everyday from multiple sources/languages since early December, so I know what I am talking, as I was sourcing the right mask for my relatives & friends)

Good for them to finally stand up for themselves.

Because I am trying to support Made in Taiwan and avoid Made in China wherever I can and can afford. But mainly because of quality, once bitten, twice shy.

Same, very thankful to accidentally stubbled upon a foreign language online forum and learned about Covid even before the western media heard about it.

LOL!! quality issue? the person who committed to this deal obviously has "zero-nil-nada trading experience" on international trades/sourcing (especially with factories in China)! XD
basic 101: buying from the right channel, right factory and right person with right contract(requirements) and paying the right price at the right time.
"self buying" from Alibaba & Aliexpress = absolutely failed! (either the sourcing party is corrupted/bought it on purpose, greedy/cheap-out, or when they do not know what they are doing)
tons of fake/unqualified mask came out after coronavirus! doesn't mean "being scammed" in any other countries is not possible (not being racist here, try sourcing similar pricing mask/extremely high demand products from Turkey/India/Vietnam/Europe & others?). it just happens! this is international trading, just China happen to be the biggest manufacturer on the planet with most factories/supplies.

some of the news are full of "political views" and the following up is to none-existence, at least this one shows Philippine DOH admitted, but the damages is done with earlier accusation. (some are ignorance, most are political/media games/on purpose)lastly, I am not from China, just different point of views, don't fall into brainwashing Media views/article, try standing on the opposite side & think, and then standing back, just being fair!
happy hunting! ;-)

Chemist Warehouse has boxes of the thin disposable masks. Else it's Amazon with hit or miss quality.
