I have two sisters who are nurses and sometimes we do often discuss about all the janitors, security guards etc who have to work on the frontline as well, and are just as much at risk and yet they never get any credit.

      • +3

They deserve it more then you.

    • Hopefully their work pass will suffice as ID to access these deals

I work in a hospital and cannot agree more. Stores and supply teams also have had it pretty crappy, they had to accept all incoming medical supplies and equipment, 90% of which comes from China. Deal with dozens of couriers on a daily basis. Roam around every part of the hospital dropping off supplies. Nurses run out of theatres and wards touching supplies and moving trolleys with their soiled gloves. They should be removing masks and gloves as soon as they exit a room or a theatre but let me tell you, 95% of them do not.

I feel incredibly aggrieved for all the back end staff such as stores, housekeeping and catering, they are on the lowest wages in the place and get treated like absolute garbage.

not sure how China have to do with them having it "pretty crappy"

Ill admit I don't know the full facts of COVID transmission over goods such as this (yes probably close to none) but it was never identified as a risk or potential minor issue. In there minds with all the craziness going on, you would think twice about everything, including where the goods have come from, it's a natural reaction to have these concerns, whether its fact, educated or not. When the back end and admin staff in hospitals speak up, ask questions or show concerns, no one listens, its almost frowned upon, you are expected to arrive everyday with a smile.

You would even have clinical staff refuse to use things that had just arrived from China or be very difficult about it. Yes again this is potentially a non issue as the clothes on there back were probably made in China too.

Staff would then throw tantrums about lack of stock or having to use alternative items due to stock shortages from obvious reasons. I saw this myself on a daily basis. It was nothing to do with patient health, it was all about them having to "slightly change".

          • @aj01: It wasn’t identified as an issue or risk because it’s not an issue or risk. I understand where you are coming from but I just want to set the record straight.

      • Have you ever seen how different a FEMALE nurse talks to a surgeon, and straight away how she talks to the cleaner?

honestly, it's about time ozbargain commenters get included in the first responders group. there's people here that are always in first with the jokes and hilarious comments they are truly doing a service to the community in these tough times.

    bloody heroes!

Would this be stackable with the stores current promotions?

I'm assuming armchair doctors and police officers are included in this deal.

The real ones don't have time for this nonsense. Too busy doing real work.

  • Prison Officers?

Would someone who calls 000 be a first responder? They did act first. Or maybe we should call them emergency service workers like they always were instead of these crap american terms the PR departments love to adopt.

I feel like the staff at grocery stores deserve something as well. They were exposed to an increased number of people (and abuse), without PPE whilst continuing to work on minimum wage.

Or wear scrubs in public, you know, for clout. Of course with the stethoscope hanging front and centre, also with a ID badge front and centre. Lol

    • That's a good observation, I've never seen a paramedic use a stethoscope tbh.

I knew my GF's nurse uniform would come in handy one day !
