  • Interested. I find all the AA or AAA torches have very poor connection to the battery and end up flickering or not turning on. Are these any better? I have gone to rechargable battery torches because of all the AA battery torches i've had to throw away.

    • +1

They’re good I have the i3E uv and i5T, no flickering problem. All connections are gold plated I believe.

    • +1

5yr warranty not that you are likely to need it. The i5T seems a solid torch from my use, no flickering and reliable.

    • All my Olight AAA torches are fantastic, no battery play once in the torch and no tight fits. I run Panasonic Eneloop Pros in all of them for extended run times. You will find that as the battery gets too low they will not go into high mode as it won't be able to sustain it for long and will drain the battery.

  • +1

Perun Mini looks perfect for taking the wheelie bins out at night. Sold!

    • Looks to be a damn good little torch, basically an S1R Baton II but right-angled

  • -6

Ozito 19.98 Led torch with a 2ah battery lasts forever. If you have a 4ah battery, it lasts forever times 2.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-18v-led-torch-skin-onl…

    • How is that comparable?

      • -2

        Both made in china.

    • +2

The Ozito weighs 200g without the battery pack, 600g with the 2.0Ah battery pack, which you need to buy separately as it's a skin only, so you need to buy the charger too. $19.98 + $35.00 + $19.00 = $73.98 for a 250 lumen right-angled torch that weighs over half a kilo.

Or you could buy this, i5T Gunmetal Grey, 300 Lumen, 60m throw and 20-hour runtime on a single AA for $37.46 and chuck a rechargeable AA in it - https://www.olightstore.com.au/i5t-eos-grey
Or even buy the Perun Mini bundle and get a right-angled, magnetic, rechargeable 1000 lumen torch/headlamp for $70.97 - https://www.olightstore.com.au/perun-mini-headband-bundle

At least it will be made of metal and both are sub 100g

Don't like Olight? Then maybe the Nitecore Tiki 300 lumen mini USB rechargeable torch is better for you $54.95 - https://www.liteshop.com.au/content/nitecore-tiki-tiny-300-l…

      • I was happy with my BLF Q8 & plethora of cheap chinese <$5 1xAA torches until I started googling again because of this thread. The Nitecore Tiki does look like a good keyring addition. All the extra searching has just added the Thrunite Catapult V6 to the acquisition list.

  • Most torches are far too bright for around house use at night. Good to see some of these have a lower lumen output mode… how you activate this is the key. Is it easy to activate and turn off again or requires some tricky combination of button presses? Web site doesn't make this clear.

    • +2

Press to turn on and it remembers the last output level. Hold to cycle through once on. Hold from off for a 1 lumens mode and you can then cycle to low+ by pressing again with a hold.

The interface is about as good as they come in torches.

    • +1

Agreed! The amount of times I ave blinded myself and partner with my torches…

The Olight torches I have, use the following UI's and these will be the same for most Olights.

      • The i3T (Same as the i5T but AAA) is a click on for Low and then click off then back on for High.

      • The S2R Baton II modes are; hold for Moonlight, then click press and hold to cycle up in brightness in Low/Med/High and it will continue to cycle through these 3 until you release the button. Double click for Turbo and triple-click for Strobe. It will also revert to the last used mode, except turbo (double click from any setting) or strobe (triple-click from any setting)

      • The Perun (Same as the Perun Mini) modes are; hold for Moonlight, then click press and hold to cycle up in brightness in Low/Med/High and it will continue to cycle through these 3 until you release the button. Double click for Turbo and triple-click for SOS Beacon. It will also revert to the last used mode, except turbo (double click from any setting) or SOS Beason(triple-click from any setting)

      Hope that helps!

  • dose anyone know if they are waterproof and can you use them for spear fishing

    • Olight doesn't make any diving torches, but they all have IPX8,Waterproof ratings, usually tested to 2m, so they will function if submersed but they can still have water ingress as they are not designed to be operated underwater. You really should be looking at a specialized dive torch that can withstand the pressure of deeper water and where the switches are designed for underwater operation.

    • Check out the dive torchers here: https://www.liteshop.com.au/torch-type/dive/

  • I have the M1X Striker model (3+ years now), its great, 1000ms of blinding goodness/brightness.
    It uses a 18650 battery.

The i5T EOS (300lm) looks tempting for a great AA torch.
Had a Led Lenser 2 or 3 AA, but battery leaked inside it.

If your interested in a easier to use (light modes) torch, look at the Wowtac brand.
I was looking at these years ago, the model was called BSS series (tactical), looks like they don't do this model/series anymore.

    • +1

Wowtac and their premium brand Thrunite are great torches too. You also get better LED options with these lights compared to Olight. But I'm yet to find a Wowtac/Thrunite which is built better than an Olight. The Wowtac/Thrunite black anodising is better than the Olight colours but similar to the Olight black in my opinion.
