  • Wish it wasn't Bronze, and if you need to get from BingLee get it via eBay. Same price and free delivery there.

  • They use 8 x AA batteries? That's just silly. Why not just a single big battery?

so you can buy and replace them easily when running out of juice?

      Because eneloops

  • What's the go with one this expensive vs a $200 one on Amazon?

    • +11

This one is Wifi. You can operate it remotely without having to be within in range.
Myself for example I use it for Airbnb, I am 2hrs away from the property, I create a unique PIN on guest check in

I don't understand the purpose of these when people have security doors

Having an $800 door lock is basically as good as signposting to thieves your home is worth something. Might find your door lock missing the next time you go on holiday lol. A $200 digital door lock would work just as well.

A $200 lock wouldn’t work in my case. I need the lock to operate remotely (wifi) so that I can grant access to Airbnb guests and cleaners. How would one steal a door lock from the outside without opening the door?

      • There are plenty of Wi-Fi smart lock solutions, especially with Alexa/Google support. You're paying for the biometrics which I think is overkill especially for an Airbnb solution.

        • Wifi with remote control over 4G? No use for Alexa I am 2hrs from the property. I couldn’t find any, would you mind sharing some brands?

        • Biometrics/pin codes is worthwhile when you have kids and you watched your neighbour for years replacing key barrels because their 2 boys kept losing keys every term/year!

      • Digital locks can be picked, or in the case where the lock is particularly attractive, it's pretty easy to cut away the whole section containing the lock. If your hinge isn't security reinforced, it's also not hard to kick the door open either.

        • At the end of the day most front doors can be kicked in or the lock drilled out in seconds if burglars really want to get in.

          • @abacus: Exactly. So why would you spend $700 on a lock which will not do any better, other than to telegraph that you have the spending power to splurge on a lock that costs about twenty times more than a traditional lock, or seven times other digital locks?

It's all about the vanity and ego if they do.

Great price! I bought mine from Big Lee with an ebay 20% off code last November. This is another 20% off what i paid! Great deal.

  • These can be opened with a strong magnet right?
    Activates the solanoid?

I'd be right onto this if I didn't already have an older model installed. Can't justify spending more $$$ on the upgrade.
We have the Samsung P717 on our front door, have been really happy with it - even though ours is not wifi connected. Pretty much every visitor comments on it as well. The push-pull mechanism is great.
For those wondering about batteries, we are still on our original set about 3 years in. I think the quoted battery life was 12 months!

    • +1

      We also have the p717.
Love it. We're also on the original batteries and it's been over 2.5yrs.

  • Is this lock include wifi module or have to purchase separately?

    • +1

SH-DR708 includes wifi connectivity but no bluetooth. Honestly, wifi is better for remote lock/unlock as compared to bluetooth where you need to be in the lock's vicinity. Good price and the bunnings website still has them for $965 but scanned at $719 in-store. When asked to price beat, they blatantly said NO as theirs is lot cheaper than Bing Lee. Only $20 more than the older model, so win-win!
