Looking for a laptop with a decent display, big enough (at least bigger than 10”), that would give decent performance for an writer (text like on Google Docs) and entertainment (YouTube, etc) type of usage within the budget of $350 to maximum $400 for my Grandma’s birthday.

Not much available for that budget for a decent workable laptop. A tablet maybe though typing large quantities of text without a keyboard can be a pain. A Chromebook perhaps? But I wouldn't waste my money on something like that.
Tablet wise for Android within that budget would probably be something from Samsung… There are some pretty horrid tablets out there that are junk.
I got dad the Samsung Tab A 10.1 128gb/3gb ram for Father's Day as an entry level tablet for $350 via Amazon (prices have gone up) and he is currently enjoying using it. As an Entry level tablet for media consumption n app usage it is fine for his usage. It'll be supported for at least 2 years by Samsung, though Apple iPads have 4-5 years worth of software support which trumps the competition.
Apple iPads are still king in the tablet space but are much more pricey.
