Trying to Find a Good 32" LED/LCD for under $650

I'v been searching for a good deal on a decent 32" tv for my mother. She doesn't want a 42" tv because it won't fit in her cabinet.

Stores she's been to have been trying to convince her to buy the new $650-$750 SMART internet 32" LEDs…
I think she only really needs a TV that has at least 2 composite inputs
1920x1080 resolution (Not really but it just feels like it would be better quality newer panel)
It would hopefully last quite a long time and it gets left on quite alot.
A decent length warrenty preferably replacement warrenty not just repair. (My Bravia PS&Panel has died and needed to be repaired twice already)
Are the new LED panels that much better than the standard LCD? It's impossible to tell the amount of backlight bleed you'll get in dark scenes in low light just looking at the tv in store.
She wouldn't need 200hz, motionflow or the internet SMART features. They'd never get used.

If anyone has done their research recently and bought something or seen something they would buy. It would be helpful. Thanks

Is it worth looking at the Kogan, Sansui etc? They have some good features (Like the PVRs) for good prices. But I'm concerned about how long it will last without problems.

  • Thanks for any help.
She's sneaky hunting for a TV right now. I'm stuck sitting around (Had an operation on my foot) and can't fend off sales folk who are feeding her lies.
Some of the stuff they've told her is unbeleivable lol

  • I don't know about her but my family had been looking for the 32 inch TV over the last 2 months and made a decision on the Soniq 32 inch LED LCD HD TV which was on sale at JB Hi Fi for $399 (it's $499 at the moment), watching right now couldn't be happier.

They were not happy with VIVO image quality although the price was cheaper. Have a look here I can see her pick out anything here and not be fooled?

    Good luck.

  • Don't worry about full hd. You won't notice on a 32inch screen. My parents bought a panasonic 32 , it is on a lot and has lasted for years. - I would go for that brand. They also have a sanyo from dick smiths but say the sound quality is really poor. Actually thinking about it, both tvs came from dick smith.

I see panasonic has half a dozen models one has a rrp of $529 so should be able to get it for mid 400 I would think.

  • Thanks 'alwayscheaper' I wanted to go see the SONIQs and KOGANs in person but haven't been able to yet, it's very difficult to convince her to buy one of them over the standard LG, SAMSUNG etc. They have great features for the price and one of them had a 4 or 5 year replacement warrenty.

I saw this http://www.bigw.com.au/electronics/televisions/lcd-tv/bpnBIG… but It isn't LED and there was an LED LCD LG for $500 at HN a couple of months ago I told her not to get for some reason, I'd only just started looking then.

    • I did see that, But a 40" is too big. And there are no BINGLEE stores in SA to get the awesome LG deal if a 40 would fit.

  • I'm in the exact same situation, i'm telling my mum to wait until christmas period when hopefully a lot more specials will come out like last year.

  • Have 2 LG's and a no name brand 40in unit.

The most frustrating thing with the LG's is the remote, which is slow (or maybe the TV in receiving the signal)

Rest seems ok, but the no name brand TV, while the sound isn't that crash hot, has a nicer interface and it's more responsive.

  • get hisense, they also have an included 3 year in house warranty their tv's run economically compared to some other tv's from soniq etc. check out good guys or jb. definitely under $600 and more so if you go for the 720p unit. u won't see to much of a difference with the smaller res at this size (32 inch)

    warranty

otherwise you can get a good panasonic 32 inch LCD for under that too and I've had a good run with that brand but you'll need to add an extended warranty to get a few years on top.

  • The AWA 32" is full HD and usually well under $500, with 3 years warranty.

  • i just stayed at a hotel that had a new sharp 32 inch lcd and it was slow in changing channels. and this is from comparing my 5 year old $500 COTD Conia.

what about this puppy- AWA 32" (81cm) 1080p Full HD LCD TV $398 at Big W

  • My mum flat-out refused to get anything but a Sony >_<

In the end thats what she got, but she missed out on either a lot of features or some screen size for the price.
