Just missed out on the Shun Classic 3pc Set deal and was browsing the to see if there was anything else and came across this.
Comes down to $294 which is $30 more than the 3pc deal but you also get a block and shears. The utility knife is swapped out for a small santoku which to me was not ideal but work with that.

If any one is really desperate, here is the 7 piece version (additional carving knife, shears, honing knife) for about $100 more. Instead of the 17cm Granton Santoku, youll get the 15cm utility knife.

I'm undecided now. I think I will need honing steel to keep the knife sharp leading to annual free sharpening…but utility knife just not sure about it.

yay…finally a shun knives set owner, but the 7 PC one..at least I got the honing steel which is out of stock everywhere.
@Lancerx: I’ve always wanted a set of Shun knives. But I only recently purchase a Global set. Would have snapped this up in an instant if I needed a set. It’s a set that will last (hopefully) a lifetime so you won’t regret it.

@DR-JEKL: that's for Kanso, not classic? Or does it make a difference? either way, I've been waiting for a while for a discounted Shun knives set anyway, probably don't need 7 knives, but a new shear & honing steel won't hurt I guess. Just learned that honing is all that's necessary to improve the sharpness, instead of proper sharpening with whetstone.

So my order went through about an hr ago, but just received an email from them saying the ebay stock didn't update properly, and I'll be receiving a refund because there is actually no more stock. Feels bad man

No sign of a cancellation or refund, yet - hopefully my 5 piece set is still coming. Not marked as sent yet, but seller feedback has been completed. Not sure if they are cancelling all of them due to getting their prices wrong, or just ones beyond a certain point due to getting their stock levels wrong. After pulling everything from the ebay, I suspect it was the former, but am hoping not…

My 7 piece Shun set was dispatched today so I'd say there were a handful of sets available & orders beyond that were cancelled. That's my guess anyway.

I get people order early and got enough stock to dispatch but I ordered as soon as new stock were added manually by them which then they wanted to cancelled one hr later, the thing is that I still don’t have my refund.

Worth the money after discount, as it's a lifetime purchase. Made my global chef knife look like plastic, in term of comparing sharpness. Would have like the santoku knive in the 7 pieces set, but oh well, gotta take what's available as I'm sure we could agree they're hardly on sale.
Great find, and I reckon much better than the original 3 piece deal.
I can't agree about the Santoku for the utility knife being a bad swap - I'd take and use a 17cm Santoku over the 15cm Utility knife every day of the week. Looking at their website @ www.kitchenwarehouse.com.au/Shun-Classic-5pc-Block-Set, it appears to be the fluted version which is more expensive (seldom sells for under $200 on its own) and more useful, especially for vegetables or anything else that tend to stick to the blade. The spare slots on the dark timber block give capacity to add a bread knife or any others of choice whenever you wish, further adding to the value.
I landed the 7pc Global in the ebay sales last week for $199, but am going to gift it and grab this instead.
Oh - and be sure to add one of the many sub-$6 items to your order from the same store on ebay to waive the shipping charge. Got me some tongs and saved a few dollars more for a total price of $298.
