Gaming keyboard experts - Need Help :)

Hi guys,

I've been playing games on Thinkpad E580 and looking to purchase a TKL keyboard strictly for gaming (valorant and League).

I have been doing a lot of research but I feel like I am stil a noob when it comes to computing. You guys have helped me to get great laptop and monitor in the past. I appreciate you guys so much!

I have 5 options.

  1. VELOCIFIRE TKL78 (brown) $63
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Velocifire-TKL78-Mechanical-Illumi…

  2. Kogan TKL (brown) $50
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-tkl-rainbow-rgb-mechanica…

  3. E-Element Z-88 TKL (red) $64
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Element-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard…

  4. magicfore 68 (brown) $80
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Qisan-Mechanical-Keyboard-68-Keys-…

I would so much appreciate it if you can share your experience with any of these keyboards.

I do not need backlit lighting or RGB etc. I just want to have a keyboard that will improve my gaming experience.

I have 3 questions to ask asl well
1. do you find red swtiches are better than brown swtiches for FPS games?
2. What is the difference between 'arrives' date and 'fatest delivery' date on amazon?
VELOCIFIRE TKL78 (brown) on amazon has"Fastest delivery: 29 June - 1 July" (us imports) but unlike other items, it does not have 'arrives' date. Does that mean I can only order it if I have AUS amazon prime?
3.Do you recommend wrist rests for keyboard? If so, any brand you recommend? <$30. both of my wrists have been sore from playing valorant 2 weeks straight (never had issues playing LOL in the past)

Thanks so much guys.

I hope I haven't been selfish asking too many questions.

Have a great night :)

  • I would go with Kogan partly because all the keyboards you have listed will perform exactly the same and mainly it priced at $40.
Also Arrives date is standard delivery and fastest delivery as the name implies fast delivery which is more costly.

    • Thanks for your reply :) is fast delivery is free with amazon prime? If so, I may try out the free trial :)

      • The Amazon links are sent from USA but yes, free with Prime. It will tell you when you checkout.
The Kogan one is surprisingly not bad, I bought the non-TKL though.

        • Can I still apply amazon prime with USA amazon? Thanks :)

  • don't get z88, bought it recently and it is really shit (looks amazing, feels awful to type on)

    • Is it really? Thanks so much for your advice :) I was gonna get z88 before posting this haha. Do you think it's bad when I'm only gonna use it for gaming?

      • for gaming i suppose it might not matter much, any wired keyboard will do as well as the next
if you lived in perth i would've given you mine lol it's that bad when it comes to typing

        • You are way too nice :) now I wanna fly to Perth haha

  • I've extensively played with a lot of cheap mechanical keyboards. Most of the ones you've listed and fairly poor to fairly average.

For gaming you definitely want red switches. Smooth key travel. Great for games and will slightly reduce fatigue during long play sessions. Please note red switches will differ in quality. Do some research when you narrow down a particular model.

Some semi-budget offerings I'd recommend are:

    Drevo Calibur v2 Red - $74
    Coolermaster CK530 Red - $109

Don't even consider wireless even if a model has it. They practically all suck for gaming <$100.

For a cheap Ozbargain-esq palm rest, just buy a cheap $2 mouse pad, cut it in half lengthways, glue it together. Done.

Thank you so much my friend. I absolutely love your post. Love you palm rest idea as well haha Does cooler master ck530 red use cherry mx?

      • I doubt they're legit Cherry MX. I believe Cherry's patent expired so everyone is allowed to "copy" their design. Some company's are as good. Some are poor. In general Red is what you want for gaming. Linear and smooth.

  • Can personally vouch for the Z88. Actually well made, has a detachable USB C cable. Good build quality, not that bad, metal construction. Pretty good for $50. Plus Amazon free delivery took only 3 days for me.

The Outemu switches are better than some (like Zorros in Ajazz boards) but Gaterons are a much better choice as they are smoother.

    Edit: typo

    • Did you get blue switch?

      • Yes I did. Have used linears, tactiles and clickies for gaming (CSGO, Apex) and they are all pretty good IMHO. You've probably read somewhere that blues are bad for gaming and good for typing but tbh that's bull. I've had no probs at all using all three for gaming.

Anyways, that's just my opinion, it's ultimately up to you and what you like 😉👌

        • You have been extremely helpful my friend. Thank you so much! Such a good guy!

  • The magic still haven't made its way to Australian Amazon yet? I've been waiting for it to be my 60% since it got featured on LTT.

You should only get Kogan if you have earphones on all the time. There's this spring problem with it where it squeaks with each button press. I'm sure people can get acclimated to it, but I'd rather pay double to avoid it.

    • That noise would annoy my gf fair but haha. Would red switch make that sound too?

      • Yeah, we have a red collecting dust for that very reason. "No sound," they said, lol.

        • Hahaha gold

    • Well, this can be fixed either thru some good old lube or sound dampening material, but probs not worth it on a cheap board like that

      • Good old lube it is !
