Saw the bike handle variant on there as well the other day. Down to $169 from $429.

  • Oh damn, I'm hanging out for one of these with battery.
Looks like good deals were to be had a little while back

  • +1

I think it's been this price for a while
Also, Ego have a promotion of spend x$ and get a free battery. Means you need to spend heaps, though….

    • They administrate their free battery program like a pile of anuses.

If you buy over two receipts.. Doesn't even matter if you purchase from same store and within the promotion timeframe (or even on the same day).. It doesnt count.

The t&c is clear and they stick to it but the problem is only an anus would write t&c like that.

Minimum spend is now $800 too and that's a crock.

    • Yeah it's much higher than last year. I think it was $400+ gave you a 2.5aH and now it's $800+

      Yikes.

      • It was $500 in a SINGLE transaction

        • Yeah I read that before I clicked buy during the last promo. Ended up splitting my purchases over 2x transactions to get a 2.5ah and a 5ah bonus when I got my mower/trimmer/blower.

  • I've been eyeing the Ozito Grass Trimmer for a small patch of lawn. What will be the advantage of buying this over that? I'm very new to tools.

cost mainly…given the above retails at $250 it probably lasts longer but it is just the skin.i.e doesnt have the battery

Chalk and cheese between those units. I've tried those units with the blades before and they really struggle at any longer grass, they just throw the blades instead of cutting the grass, they are cheap and nasty and the unit doesn't have the power. The Ego will have none of those issues, it's a proper line trimmer and Ego are probably the best garden tools electric brand.

The Ozito grass trimmer in standard form (with plastic blades) is complete rubbish. I've converted the head to a auto feed line trimmer and it's been a great little unit. A 4.0ah battery seems to last about 30 mins which gets my whole garden edging done quite comfortable and it's so light my back isn't sore like when I pull out the big petrol unit… Don't buy the ozito if you plan on using the plastic blades.

I have that one. Its much smaller than it looks, really only suited to running round the edges of small yards. The single blade is about the size of your pinky. Its runs off 18v

The ego by comparison runs off 54v and has a line. It looks like it could handle an overgrown lawn without much hassle.

Also I think this would be a good in between option because it includes the battery and charger whilst the deal in the OP requires still another $300 or so for battery and charger. https://sydneytools.com.au/product/dewalt-dcm561p1xe-18v-50a…

    • Thanks for all of the replies. I'm so confused, it seems that it will be hard to commit to a single brand. I don't expect to have much use of the tools other than normal DIYs and household chores so I wanted all my tools to be of the same brand.

Might have to make an exception for a grass trimmer then.

      • What's your definition of 'small patch of lawn' ?
And are you planning on just doing the edges, or using the grass trimmer for all of it?
Don't forget there's a bigger 2 x 18V Ozito grass trimmer that takes line, instead of the 1 x 18V with the plastic thingers.

        • Using the grass trimmer for everything. Maybe around 30 square meters or so?

          • @BuyNowThinkLater: Yeah, I don't think you'd want to do that size without a trimmer that uses actual line.
I'd take a guess that the 2 x 18V ozito would be okay…. but it'd probably also depend on your skill level!

They have been $159 at TradeTools since 25 May with Free shipping. See: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/539194

  • This doesn't come with the battery/charger does it? I am really tempted by the power load feature on the trimmer line.

    • +2

Correct - skin only. You may need to re-mortgage your house to buy a collection of EGO batteries and chargers.

      • you are not wrong $200 for a 2.5amp

Bought this when Masters went under, and still using it today. Excellent piece of equipment

  • CCW though, which is a pain for most people

    • Is there a major difference?

      • If you are right handed then the way you hold the trimmer tends to flick material back towards you as you work around an area. Clockwise trimmers flick material away from you.

  • I bought this one with my 49cm mower 5, 6 years ago and still work so well. All my garden tools are Ego.
