Adidas Ultraboost - How Long Should They Last?

Today, I started wearing my second pair of Adidas ultraboost shoes. The bottom of the soles of my first pair was not looking very good.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long a pair of runners like the ultraboost should last? I wore mine a lot, probably 5-7 days a week, some running, mostly walking. Is 9 months too soon?

  • Too many unknowns, but I chose 1-2 years. Google says 500 to 750 kms, but that's running kms

  • I have noticed recent models have a shorter life than previous models.
My guess is they designed them to wear quicker.
The sole of the shoe just wears more quickly.

Depends on the surface, regular use in bitumen can't be great. Your mass would also play a big part.

Also make sure you're not using them for any sports or activities that involve lateral movement.

To me 9 months isn't terrible. I know I always go too long when replacing my runners. I know this by how much better the new ones feel. Just because they don't have holes doesn't mean they shouldn't be replaced. Cheaper than new knees!

    • I second the new knees comment!

I also noticed a while ago that the bounce in the old ultraboosts had gone.

  • The thing that wears out quickly is the sole. I don't think the boost gets destroyed that quickly, they are not EVAs.

But honestly, all shoes wear out over time…

  • Where did you buy it from?
I bought a pair of tigers from catch a few years ago and it wore through after half a year. I think it may have been counterfeit.

    • They were from adidas' website, on sale, about $120.

  • I've been wearing my pair of Ultraboost ST since the the end of 2016. I've worn them whilst travelling across 4 different continents, in all sorts of terrain (including snow) bar desert. Probably wearing them 3-4 times a week now. I'm not a runner so I've only ever walked in them.

The midsole has split on the bottom but they are my most comfortable pair of shoes (more comfy than my current Ultra Boost 20) as I've worn them in. Even though they are getting tatty, I don't see myself throwing them out anytime soon. Though the Continental Rubber has worn off towards the toe box.

  • I get about 1000km - fast walking on average 10km per day 7 days a week. Pace is about 7km/hr

  • I've got a pair of Ultra Boost 3.0s that I purchased back in 2017.

I use these for running 6 times a week. They're pretty buggered now but lasted a good 3 years with a lot of use

They are hopeless, the continental rubber sole barely lasts 1 year with average use. I've had two pairs wear out down to the boost midsole so not just a one off. All other high end models from other brands last much, much longer. The problem is, they are the most comfortable shoes i've ever worn so i will buy another pair :-(
