Subwoofer recommendations for large HT room

Have a large home theater room with a current beefy sub that has 15" cone and out puts max 500watts.

Need to replace it but cant find any deals (under $500) to match the output of my current sub.

So many subs on market are satellite speaker setup of 8" or 10" cone with upto 150watts

Anyone know of some good subwoofer deals out there?

probably the best deal in your price range

  • yeah I think I need to increase my budget, looks like stuff in the $1k range is best but I dont want to spend 1k

Yeah $500 would get you something very cheap and nasty. Remember this stuff can last 15 to 20 years so it's worth the investment.

For $500 you will need to go used to get a decent sub for a large room.

Couple of Velodyne's on ebay at the moment:

  • What’s the issue with your current sub?

It could be easier/cheaper to refurbish your current sub.
As there’s typically only 3 components - amp, sub, box - I’m assuming only one is faulty so shouldn’t be too hard to fix.

  • Well not sure if anything wrong with current sub, maybe I am just being parnoid thinking it going to fail soon.

Issue is when sub gets power it has a slight crackling sound ever so faint, only when on power and standby. I am thinking maybe the capacitors are giving way as its a 15 year old sub.

But now since getting a 7.2 yammy I want to also get a 2nd sub.

I am avaliable to get this jamo for $650 but dont know if enough to fill a large room
