Kitchen appliance installation in new build

Hi, we are going to be arranging installation of appliances being oven, cooktop, dishwasher and rangehood in our new build.

I thought I'd see if someone would have a gauge of what this should cost and the best way of doing it.

We may purchase them through good guys commercial, they offer instillation but it seems very expensive.

If getting an external person to do it, any qualifications I should make sure they have?

Thanks in advance.

  • Licensed, electrician, plumber and possibly a cabinet maker.

    • Cheers, any idea on what it should cost?

    • Would really depend on what’s needed, $400-1000 ballpark.
Was the kitchen designed to meet you appliances dimensions?
Did the kitchen installer, fit the appliances into kitchen ready for connection?
Gas cooktop? Integrated dishwasher? Stone benchtop? So many variables.

      • I see, Kitchen not built yet and will be done to appliance dimensions, appliances won't be fitted, gas cooktop, standard dishwasher, yes stone.

Thanks for the ballpark figure, it helps.

        • Normally if it’s a custom kitchen, the cabinets will be built to suit the appliances, sometimes these are unpacked in the joinery shop and test fitted, depending on what they are.
Electric water and gas is normally roughed in the walls before the kitchen arrives on site, this is normally coordinated between the kitchen company and the trades, and may need them come to you site to move wiring, plumbing to suit your kitchen.
Appliances are normally installed by kitchen installer, but not connected.
Connection needs to be done by licensed trade.
Rangehoods can be ducted outside which can add extra expense.
I’d budget $100-200 per connection and you have 7.

          • @Stewardo: Thanks for such a thorough response, it's really appreciated!

          • @Stewardo: i think it a requirement now to have the rangehood ducted now. I have a recent install before xmas and this was brought up. It costed me about $600 with a plumber to connected the gas cooktop/sink - taps/and rangehood ducting.

  • Licensed appliance technician or electrician will be needed for the oven And cooktop if they’re hard wired. Dishwasher and rangehood could be done by yourself or anyone really.

    • In a new kitchen dishwasher would need a powerpoint installed and a water valve and a waste pipe, this would require an electrician and a plumber.
Rangehood would require a powerpoint, and some plumbing work if it’s ducted.

      • I’m assuming power points and tap would be fitted off during the new build with the rest of the electrics and plumbing in the house. Waste is already there part of the kitchen sink waste.

  • Who building your kitchen cabinets?

    • that is being arranged by the builder of the house.

  • Thanks everyone for your help!

  • Dishwasher you can do yourself easily (assuming plug point and water inlets were planned for correctly in the build), it's just connecting hoses to taps and waste water. Our freestanding electric oven/gas stove cost about $600 from memory as it required an electrician and a gas plumber. I'm guessing it would have been about half of that if it were induction/electric top.

  • Do you know what appliances you're purchasing? This may turn into a disaster if you haven't told the builder. They won't have specs for exact measurements so you can have someone come in and install. You will need to purchase appliance based on what the builder has measured.

    • The house hasn't started being built yet, we need to let them know the specifics of what we purchase so they can make appropriate arrangements.
