Northern Canada, 1970. A strange blizzard ravages Atamipek Lake. Step into the shoes of a detective to explore the eerie village, investigate surreal events, and battle the elements to survive. The first installment in a series of four games, Kona is a chilly, narrative-driven interactive tale you won't soon forget.

Setting

October 1970. W. Hamilton, a rich industrialist who owns a hunting manor in Northern Canada, reports several cases of vandalism perpetrated against his property. Unable to find out who dared to commit these acts, Hamilton calls Carl Faubert, a renowned private detective to handle the affair.

In Kona, Carl becomes trapped up in the deep north, engulfed in an unexpected snowstorm, and is unable to find his client —or any other living inhabitant for that matter. The player incarnated detective Faubert, who must shed light on the mysterious events befalling the area.

Key Features

  • Step into a surreal interactive tale of mystery and investigate the perplexing quietness in the entire town.
  • Explore a vast, frigid Northern environment and battle the elements to survive.
  • Complete the first of four distinct acts, each offering between three to five hours of gameplay.
  • Enjoy the atmospheric soundtrack featuring music by Quebec folk band Curé Label.
  • Experience the tale through the omniscient, third-person storyteller.
  • Go back in time with a vintage look and feel reminiscent of 1970s rural communities.

Enjoy!

Nice find Lysander, been meaning to try this one for a while.

"Northern Canada, 1970…" I lost interest after the first 2 words. Couldn't think of a more boring setting.

It's an Adventure/Survival game, hence the remote, desolate wilderness setting. They're not going to set a survival game in the bustling streets of New York or London are they?

Besides, 1685 people on Steam disagree with you and personally, a vast, untouched, arctic tundra is a damn sight more interesting to wander around in than yet-another recreation of some generic Western metropolis in a video game where 90% of doors are locked and herds of identical-looking NPCs shuffle around aimlessly.

True that. Far too many games have been set in America and NY in particular. That shit is boring.

      • Sounds like The Long Dark.

A similiar setting but not quite as serious of a survival simulator. That game is more in league with Rust, Raft, The Forest, Dying Light or DayZ.

This is more like an on-rails (not literally) walking simulator/adventure game with a lot of story exposition and a focus on piecing together clues to unravel the mystery of the events that took place before you arrived. Along the lines of Dear Esther, Firewatch and even Kholat to some degree, though with less of a horror atmosphere.

  • I played this for 10 mins and found it extremely boring.
May be more a reflection on myself than the game, but either way, I didn't like it.
