Hi guys, I was about to enroll in Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics at RMIT university. So, I was looking for some online reviews and came across some shocking reviews specially about online post graduate courses. Most people are saying their lecturers and admin people are not helpful. My personal experience is they accepted my application within 12 hours of applying and when I called the info line I had to wait more than 1 hour to be answered. Is that an indication for something? I would enroll in the course with the sole intention of learning, not just for the certificate. Do you have any experience with RMIT online?
Would You Recommend Doing an Online Post Graduate Course at RMIT?

RMIT do not have the resources to deal with the amount of students they have.
While student support seem helpful, they're really not and you seem to be chasing your tail in a never ending loop.
Teachers have too many classes to deal with, in my Sound course there are 4 groups, around 120 students per semester, I sent a teacher an email and 3 months later got a reply, that should explain how things slip through the system.
I ceased studies due to C19 and was offered online tutes, some students thought it was play time when online lectures were delivered, this makes online delivery effectively pointless in my stream as we must do a lot of hands on.
I am in 2 minds whether I will be going back, I took a leave of absence till C19 has allowed for face to face delivery. What you mean by the play time thing?
Well what they would not do in class they would do online, because chat was enabled on sidebar for live delivery of online tutes, some students thought it would be great to just post random "funnies" like, "excuse me but can I go to the toilet?"
This sort of distraction was off putting when other students were trying to ask proper relevant questions.
It comes down to 2 things, monitoring of chat and students behavior. 1 of the reasons I took a leave of absence, I refuse to partake in online studies.
It seems to be a high volume churn.
Get as many people in as possible, show old lectures and get students to fend for themselves on slack.Don’t know anything about RMIT. But if you are considering alternative Universities, Deakin is great with online delivery. Just finished a masters degree. Although, our course attracted mostly mature age students, so no funny business. Deakin customer service is very responsive. Deakin’s support systems for students are very good. Exhaustive online library resources. Deakin has also moved away from recommending text books. Instead they make available online course material and then you can dive deeper with further research. They also have mandatory free courses you must complete, which prepare a student for university level studies. They have free career counseling, courses on resume, interviews, LinkedIn profiles.
Although, with studies it is also very important to consider industry recognition. Especially, if you’re going to be starting off a new career.Deakin has a good online delivery system as does UNE from experience.
Unless you want to be in academic / research, postgraduate degree does not mean much these days.
You often better off having open source project on github showcasing your talent or having professional certification.
Is this one of the covid discounted courses? They are amazing value wise, normally about 12k but now 2k, catch is you must be a full-time student and complete it next semester.
If you're worried about the reviews, there are a few other unis with a similar offering for next semester at the discounted price. You could consider applying for a couple, find out which one is the one you prefer in the first week of semester, and then withdraw before census date in the others. IIRC you can withdraw before census without needing to pay the fees but I could be wrong.
If you're a dedicated and applied student, it would surprise me that you didn't find a post-grad course valuable or challenging.
RMIT are shockingly bad.
I've ditched them for CSU. Both CSU and Deakin have reception customer service and are efficient. Plus they answer the phone quickly.
FYI: I work for RMIT and still wouldn't recommend them.
