Is It Safe for Me to Fix This Part of My Garage Door?

Hi there,

I know this may seem like a dumb question but I'd just like a few other opinions just to err on the side of caution. I know garage doors are really dangerous and can cause serious injury or death when messed with wrong hence why I would like to reassure myself before I dive in.

The issue is my automatic garage door has a curved door arm that connects the door to the pulley drive system and drags the door up and down. That curved door arm has 2 screws, one of which is really loose and the other one has come off completely meaning the door has serious issues going up and coming down.

I need to put the screw back in and tighten both of them back up and logic tells me I should be fine to do so but again, I just wanted to ask a quick question to reassure myself before I jumped in as I'm not that experienced in things like this.

Is it safe for me to do so?

Thank you!

That part isn't under tension so should be fine to put screw back in and tighten. It's the compressed springs at the top and cables which are extremely dangerous and should not be touched.

    • Perfect cheers for the help!

  • You will be fine to work on that bar. As Hybroid said above, that part is not under tension.

    • Thank you very much, I appreciate the response!

  • Your Manual Release Cord appears to be missing, this could be a problem if you have a power outage.

    • Some doors use a pole.
