  • DAB or DAB+?

  • DAB

here's the details of it on the philips website
    http://www.philips.co.uk/c/audio-system/aluminium-dab-dcb291…

    • +2

      DAB

Australia use DAB+ though, not DAB…

DAB will only work in the UK

Here is a list of which countries use DAB, which use DAB+ and which use DMB

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Countries_using_DAB/DMB

      Australia uses DAB+

No offence, but this is a bit misleading, as many people may confuse DAB for DAB+. Australia uses DAB+ and DAB is not forward compatible with DAB+, hence your radio here is quite useless.
I don't think it is fair to offer a product with technology which does not work in Australia (and not have that specifically expressed in the description)

      • i guess the FM will still work, but $185 is a lot of money to pay for FM, heck it's even a lot of money to pay for digital radio…

      • This is the Australian model and does work in Australia. same one being sold by bing lee and many other retailers

  • all aboard the failboat ?

  • This is the Australian model and does work in Australia

    • I'm a bit confused, really need to read up on this. However, it is true to say that Bing Lee and some specialist audio places are selling this same model.

      • yes, that's correct. same one being sold by Bing Lee.

        • Maybe you can try it at Bing Lee to see if it works :)

    • and does work in Australia

DAB does NOT work in Australia, only DAB+

      read here… http://www.digitalradioplus.com.au/index.cfm?page_id=1010

"To listen to digital radio, consumers need a new DAB+ radio"

    • Rep - when you say it works in Australia, what are you referring to? the FM radio function? Or the DAB function works in Australia? Or both functions i.e. both digital and analogue?

  • They have some ipod docks on ozsale which may be worth checking out

  • Oddly enough Phillips also sells another similar unit but its DAB+ and has a price $199 from Addicted to Audio with free shipping. Although this DAB+ unit does not support iPad, and is not as attractive as the DCB291.

The dcb291 is advertised as a DAB model, why they sell this in the Australian market is very strange, and should be sold at a discount as the Digital radio feature its not able to be used in Australia.
