HTC Desire HD remote battery charger

Hi all,

As some may know the battery life of the desire HD is kinda useless… I'm lucky to have to last 8 hrs of me using it for general things (not playing games)… and I'm about to go out on a exploring day of the city of Sydney from early morning til late at night when I have to get my flight.

So there is a fear that even thou if I do turn the lights setting to its lowest and turn off all the fun stuff it might still run out of battery and i wouldnt be able to make contacts with anyone when i'm at the airport..

This leads on the question, How are the quality/life of these remote battery packs? has anyone used one before?

I know i have heard of Energizer's "Energi To Go", is there any better alternative? or should I just get in a spare HTC Desire battery?

With any suggestions, if they can, push me in the direction of where to get that product at a good price.

Thanks in advance!

  • Sorry that i cannot help you with the Energizer option, but, which Firmware are you using? I got a pretty good jump of battery life moving from the stock desire OS to Cyanogenmod.

    • interested.. i dont know much about this, will it "reboot" my phone? and will i have access to normal android updates i.e. ice-cream sandwich?

      • reboot? It will "root" your phone. Basically you change the operating system to a modified version of android, but to do this, you need to "root" it.

        • sorry when i said reboot i kinda meant will it reset my phone. i'll look into this rooting of the phone. is there a chance it will brick my phone?

        • Yes it will reset it. similar to reinstalling windows on a pc. Yes, there is a chance of bricking your phone, however this is slim so long as you follow the instructions (there are step by step video tutorials which will guide you through it)

  • Sorry, I can only offer general advice. I carry a cheap iPhone remote battery that I got on a OzStock 1-day deal ages ago. It looks like this one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FOR-IPHONE-3G-/130421528163 and is rated 1800mAh but I doubt it is really that powerful… it carries enough juice to get me about a 1/2 - 3/4 of a charge on the iPhone 3GS.

The number of times it's saved me has made it well worth the $8 or so I paid for it. It uses a Lithium battery, is light, and has a iPhone dock port on input and output. So, you can shove it into the bottom of the phone then plug the standard iPhone charger lead into the bottom of it and charge both at once.

I've also tried things like this AA housing… http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AA-Emergency-Charger-/25089418319… … but unless you drop Eneloops in there they go flat too fast. And it's heavy and bulky, but the advantage is that it's cheap and super easy to recharge (just buy a pack of Alkaline AAs) in an emergency.

But the great thing about Lithium is that they generally holds a decent charge for weeks. So, it's always ready to go. So, you could always try the cheapies first… the question is how to find a cheapy version of those Energizers for USB rather than iPhone?

  • I bought a NewTrent IMD50D 5000mAh end of last year for my trip to Japan. I highly recommend it and there are many positive reviews of it online. I can charge my iPhone around 3x on a single charge of this battery pack.

    • Where did you get it, it good really good reviews on amazon, but they won't ship to australia, did you use a mail forwarder?

      http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dap…

      • I originally bought it directly from newTrent.com but it seems they don't offer international shipping anymore. I looked around the net but can't seem to find anyone shipping it to Australia.
