Built to Go Desktop AMD Ryzen 3 3100 3.9GHz | 8GB | 120GB SSD | GT710 | $469 Delivered @ PC Byte

150

Hello everyone, first time poster here. Came across some price reductions of these made to go Desktop computers on the PC Byte website.

Seems to be decent value for money, thought I'd share.I understand that the chipsets aren't quite ideal and don't allow for overclocking the CPU in some of the bundles. However, for a budget PC seems to be reasonable.

Note: Does not come with an Windows operating system please add it in the upgrade(s) section below if you require Windows.

  • Not bad for a budget PC or a HTPC/media server. GT710 does 4K Plex transcoding perfectly fine.

From a quick google its performance is barely above integrated HD 4000 graphics. Is it really worth it? Seems like PC byte i just trying to offload some old hardware.

gt710 is still in production and distribution

pc byte does this combo to sell ryzen 3100 bare build as that cpu doesn't have integrated gpu

it's common that system builder pair the cheapest gpu available to sell low end build if that cpu combo doesn't have integrated gpu

obviously this is not a gaming pc if that's what you're after

    • These days you want your client device to do the decoding. It's not like the old days where client devices were too underpowered to actually play the files themselves, these days they can just play the files and figure out its own library for the files based on the metadata, all on the client itself. why would you want your file server handling all that anyway?

I think one of the main use cases isn’t to cater to hardware but rather network capabilities. Having the ability to transcodes great if you have 4K content in your home server and don’t want to have to upload 20+ GB while watching remotely, especially if you’re pushing over a connection that has bandwidth caps. It’s pretty wasteful to do that if the device you are watching on will then downscale to 1080p or whatever.

        • For streaming outside the home over the internet, sure Plex is one solution.

Outch, it bites. I have a lot of problem with this group in the past.

Can you pay more to remove the GT710?

But being serious… a320 board 120gb ssd… this is worse than techfast

  • cpu 175
    ram 50?
    ssd 50?
    gt710 40?
    no os ubuntu
    no deal!

your prices are about right, but you've forgotten ~50 for psu and ~50 for case. windows 10 is also free. A quick pc part picker list puts the price at around $500 so it's a decent deal. The fact it's advertised as a "gaming" pc is laughable but it's an ok deal nonetheless.

          Main board?

          • +1

@Buyingcrap: a320 boards are really the lowest of the bottom of the barrel.

Look at where we are now. B550 boards about to come out.

            B450 boards about to go.

            B350 is long gone.

These predate B350. I would support to be long over for a320. These boards would be getting flushed out since they dont really have much in the way of saleabiltiy as single items themselves.

      • how is windows 10 free?

        • You can download and install Windows 10 legitimately direct from Microsoft without a key or purchase required. It will nag you to activate with a watermark bottom right but fully useable.

  • Considering that refurbished OEM desktops sell for between $250 and $300 currently (circa 2012 technology), this is not a bad deal. Standard PC components and a 500W PSU make it infinitely more upgradable. A two year warranty is also a big bonus.

That said, I also see the appeal of those OEMs if you’re looking for an affordable SFF PC. Building something with a small footprint that won’t double as a tiny furnace will cost you a pretty penny.

You guys are crazy. Take the gt730 out and put an rtx 2080ti in and this system will be fine as a gaming machine.

The case looks like it's from the 80's.
